What's your Radius?
Re: What's your Radius?
Freddo,
How could you POSSIBLY hide 243 caches?
Even in a lifetime
This would be a rate of 1 a week! Where would you get that many cache containers? Log books? Swap items? Cache identifying stickers? You'd have to have a bulk-discount account with the makers of Sistemers, Ammo tins and magnetic key holders.
And WHERE would you get that many ideas and places to hide things?
I am absolutely ASTOUNDED - is this the wrold record???

NO, that is NOT the world record. I picked up a Geocoin a while ago celebrating 1000 HIDES! Someone by the name of King Boreas. He goes under several caching names, but current count of caches HIDDEN = 2227 !!!! Yes, you read correctly.

Even more perculiar, I spotted a US cacher (who started in 2003) with nearly 2000 event findsmtbikeroz wrote:NO, that is NOT the world record. Well you could set up a "power trail" like this:
http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index. ... pic=235528
Hit the link in the first post and then the map and zoom out.
136 caches in 25 miles?
Now that could ONLY be about the numbers!
(is there one here? )

My goodness I had thought I had a bit of a problem with getting obsessed about things. But the world of caching records is chock-a-block full of statistics that just stun you

Re: What's your Radius?
It would help that his line of work causes a large ambundance of disused containers to become available. Then you have things like the Big Kauna which was a prize at a caching xmas event!blossom* wrote:Freddo,

The best part of all those 243 hides, there hasn't been one bad one.
From the Traditional caches, to the puzzles, to events, you are guaranteed to have a good time and find a quality container. Heck with his most recent event there were over 200 containers present!

Re: What's your Radius?
Wish we had of done this a few months ago my stats would have been a lot better.
Within 10 km radius (24 unfound).
Within 20 km radius (109 unfound).
Within 30 km radius (239 unfound).
Within 40 km radius (336 unfound).
Within 50 km radius (411 unfound).
There seems to have been a King tide in September to October in the state that I was dog paddling against.
December 05 was my best swimming against the tide with 383 state caches unfound.

Re: What's your Radius?
Can you get this data for GA-only caches? That's a statistic that I might be able to tackle. My total cache radius is so badly swimming against the tide that it's impossible!

I've been dormant for 2 years but the figures are looking good today.murf wrote:After a drive yesterday to find 3 caches and clean out my "50km radius from home" circle... It got me wondering, what sort of radius to other cachers keep clear around their home coordinates?
What's your Radius?
10Km - 56
20Km - 202
50Km - 611
So many choices I don't know where to start!
Edit: I should have pointed out that in 2007 before I stopped geocaching for a while there were only 250 odd geocaches within 160Km of home. So yeah, taking that into context you can understand my excitement.

Re: What's your Radius?
An update on this - looking at my post from November we've made inroads on the 10km radius but next to nothing out to 20km and beyond that the tsunami engulfs us!
The new GCA caches have made an impact as well - our GC list was down to about 22 within 10km but we've made a concerted effort to pick up the local GCA caches now so we are 'clean' in both universes.
Within 10 km radius
There are 166 caches (31 unfound).
Within 20 km radius
There are 576 caches (406 unfound).
Within 30 km radius
There are 930 caches (759 unfound).
Within 40 km radius
There are 1,210 caches (1,038 unfound).
Within 50 km radius
There are 1,446 caches (1,272 unfound).
Anything that pops up in our 10km radius gets snapped up quickly but there's still a few multis and puzzles in the middle of the bush that we have to work on.

Seeing as I've just started, and am vehicleless at the moment ... makes it a bit hard for me to travel any distance, so am concentrating on caches near home!

This one is near you and will give you some adventure and a challenge. You can also relocate the trackables which have been stuck there for a little while.
I'm nearby at Campbelltown and Lurv 4x4ing as well.
Feel free to send me a PM if you need any help with your caching.

Re: What's your Radius?
Just did some figuring with GSAK with the remaining GC caches and found the following:
Within 10km: 21 remaining - this is the one we are going to reduce to zero as soon as this rain stops!
10-11 km: 31 remaining
11-12 km: 31 remaining
12-13 km: 38 remaining
13-14 km: 28 remaining
14-15 km: 30 remaining
15-16 km: 35 remaining
16-17 km: 34 remaining
17-18 km: 32 remaining
18-19 km: 33 remaining
19-20 km: 55 remaining
Remarkably consistent considering the areas are getting progressively larger (unless there's a part of "pi r squared" I don't understand). We've not done a lot beyond about 12 km. It only jumps between 19 and 20km as that when our radius hits the Sydney CBD.
As c@w says you can spend your life looking at stats!
