Let him delete the rest of the bogus logs and then we'll think about even bothering to examine them.
Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)
No details, but they were both in SA (although one was listed as being in Vic) and one was a few km offshore (obviously not too good at using the GPSr, never having needed to before...)rhinogeo wrote:Where were they? purely for academic purposestheUMP wrote:First two dog108 caches listed for review.

Now, this isn't my usual modus operandi, you understand, but this is such an egregious example that it merited an exception.
If dog108 comes up with some verifiable proof that there's really caches been placed, then I'll publish them, but they've obviously lost the benefit of the doubt that cachers usually enjoy.
Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)
Under Profile on the GC page, dog108 is listed as "Not validated member". I would have thought that would mean you couldn't log a cache until you validated your membership. But since logs were allowed, this is obviously not the GC rules. Seems a bit weird.

Yes there are exceptions to my suggestions of checking the cache first. I should have clarified with the odd bogus log appearing here and there. The issue is different when someone decides to spend a day logging everything in a certain area.mtbikeroz wrote: Ha ha - When I first got notification of dogs find on my cache (Great Aussie Icon Hunt #1 - Adelaide to Canberra), doggy boy had found 158 caches in Adelaide, then allegedly drove over to canberra,
My personal bugbear (not that it has happened for a while) is virtual TBs being logged through one of my caches when the person hasn't been there. I delete the logs but unluckily it doesn't delete the kms the TB has supppsedly logged up.

It would seem that dog108 couldn't stay away from the SA events, and even made an appearance at the Christmas By the Lake event, though he looked to be changing appearances as the day went on
Is this dog018
or was that just a fake

Hmmm...I wonder what the envelope in the first pic had written on it, before it was Photoshopped???

Maybe this activity is a bit more prevalent than we think.
I just checked out a couple of log on virtual caches in Brisbane and found that cacher Nexus69 has been logging virtual caches that they have never visited. Although they appear to have started with legitimate finds they have found this to be more fun than searching for little boxes and now have 2570 "finds"

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)
Occasionally, I've noticed odd looking (very remote) virtuals making it onto the leaderboard of most popular caches on the main GCA page. When I've checked them out, they usually reveal that some local cachers are also into the habit of taking whirlwind visits around the planet at spectacular speeds and logging a variety of os virtuals that aren't checked too fastidiously by their owners. Might be interesting if c@w could produce one of his cute little graphs of cachers with the highest numbers of finds of each cache type!crew 153 wrote:Maybe this activity is a bit more prevalent than we think.

Looks like Nexus69 has been busy. Showing 19 caches logged today all around the world and yesterday around a 100 in Europe and the USA. Mostly virtual's. Takes all types but you would have to wonder why.

Must be an overseas thing to do when Winter Hits.
But then some virtuals enable pointless logging like that and really should be archived, like this one that Nexus69 had "found" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... a3876edb39
