OT: Breathalyser with GPS
Don't know how long these have been around for, but the Qld Police are now using GPS equipped Breathalyser units
Seen one for the first time today .... no not blowing in it
Apparently, the units will not operate until they have acquired a location.

Another use for illegal GPS jammers mounted somewhere in the car?

Re: OT: Breathalyser with GPS
I think that's a bloody good idea.. especially for drink driving incidents that result in a court appearance. That little bit of extra evidence can only be a good thing when it comes to keeping 'bloody idiots' off the road.
(Can imagine it could be a bit frustrating for the cops using them on days where the GPS signal is less than stellar and the unit takes its time acquiring a location though!)

Re: OT: Breathalyser with GPS
We have had them in Tassie for three years I think. The main idea is to generate stats relating to static RBT sites to show potential problem areas.

Guess they'd have a problem if your car is parked in a garage or parking facility.

You would lead a sheltered life if caught with one.solomonfamily wrote:Are there GPS jammers - a new one on me - I must lead a sheltered life....
The penalty for possession or supply is a fine of up to $165000 or imprisonment.

I guess it would have to transmit at the same frequency that GPSr receive at...Damo. wrote:You would lead a sheltered life if caught with one.solomonfamily wrote:Are there GPS jammers - a new one on me - I must lead a sheltered life....

Re: OT: Breathalyser with GPS
Yes GPS jammers like mobile phone jammers are basically illegal in Australia. After all you are licenced to transmit on that frequency to block them. So not something I would recommend even though they *may* be available from overseas websites. Never checked it out.
If caught at best customs will confiscate it on the way in, or it will be taken by ACMA down the track if they find you using it. As said above the maximum penalty for an unlicenced transmitter is $165k - though a first offence would be unlikely to attract that in coirt (but you still have legal fees).
The GPS jammer topic has come up before in regards to making something harder to find for a mystery. Not a good idea here with our currnet legislation.
So my initial comment above was tongue in cheek - should have stated illegal GPS jammers!

Re: OT: Breathalyser with GPS
A little known fact is that all GPS units can be used as breathalyser units.
If you are caught trying to blow into one, you are probably too drunk to drive.
