I've noticed a correlation between cache finds and the weather. Usually people will go out on a nice sunny day and, well, cache. Rainy wet days sees much less caching. Is this true for other states, not just my observations from WA? Wouldn't it be beneficial to cachers to go on rainy days because it causes much less muggles to be around?

What weather do you prefer to cache in?

I prefer fine warm sunny days to do my caching in.

You can then enjoy the views, the sunshine and everything stays dry, including your expensive electronics (GPS, digi-cam, iPac/Palm etc, etc.). And to top it off, caches are much easer to spot (in most cases) when bright sunlight abounds.

As I said ... that's what I prefer.

In reality I seem to do most of my caching in the rain!

I've also noticed that sunlight seems to be totally absent from the sky on a lot of my caching hunts (yeh - that happens when the Sun goes down ) making carrying a torch, not only to see the cache but also where your going, a necessary and indispensable item in my cache bag.

Obviously my personal preference settings are a little out of wack atm ...

Well, I only started caching in May this year, so I haven't had the opportunity to cache in the sun.

With two girls along half the time, the missus won't let us out in the rain, but when I get a chance to cache alone (like yesterday), then I'm OK with a few showers.

I did get caught in major downpour at Enigma yesterday and spent another 20 minutes looking around, just so I could find the first devilishly clever part of a 4 star multi. Turn on the heater in the car and 30 minutes later all is dry (enough).

I'm not sure I would start out knowing that I was out for the whole day in the rain, but every now and then is fine by me.

With three little goecachers under 6 in tow, persistent showers does put a dampener on caching as getting in and out or the car in the rain gets a bit much. A brief shower here or there we can live with. Also the terrain can play a role, I personally don't want be be caught in a 3+ terrain during a downpour.

For some reason, I end up caching at night in the rain.

A bit of rain doesn't worry me too much (have hiking boots and a japara - will travel) but I do like a sunnier day. Just a bit nicer not to have to come home and change from head to toe, coz you're soaked thru.

Of course, on a day where it is storming, I will probably stay home in heated comfort and dream up evil puzzle caches.

Winter is the time for Skiing,
so our find count slows during the ski season

Only go caching if the weather is not suitable to ski in

Other than that we find poor weather generally better for caching in the suburbs, as it means less hassle from passers by.

Not so up here, they stay away in droves on the "nice" sunny days Only us "brave" (stupid) souls go out hiding caches in 45C heat

"Ah to cache in the rain - bring the rain on!!! Havent seen any since early March

We will muck up your obs Devar, down in Perth for a couple of days soon and will cache hunt rain, hail or whatever. NOTHING is going to stop us!!!! (OK maybe the boss not approving our days off )
