Where to get film canisters?
Where to get film canisters?
hi, im wondering where is the best place to buy film canisters?
if this sounds like a silly question please excuse me, i grew up in the digital age where devices use flash cards instead of film.

Re: Where to get film canisters?
Woolworths supermarket sell a 3 pack of small Sistema containers for 5 bucks. They would be ideal for storing film in.

If you are referring to the 35mm film cannisters, go to a film processing shop (Kodak, Fuji, etc) and ask them.thefanman wrote:hi, im wondering where is the best place to buy film canisters?

I went to my local country store and got literally hundreds.

Re: Where to get film canisters?
Be aware though that this approach is becoming harder and harder - I used to be able to go to the city/suburban shops and ask for them and get as many as I wanted for free, lately the shops have none, or apologise as someone else has already come in ahead of me and taken all they have (and their stock obviously doesn't get replenished as much as it used to with less and less film being processed)Jardry wrote:If you are referring to the 35mm film cannisters, go to a film processing shop (Kodak, Fuji, etc) and ask them.thefanman wrote:hi, im wondering where is the best place to buy film canisters?

We're a little slower in the country taking up new technology!!
I must admit when I asked it was about 12 months ago and I still have ample for my future needs.

Will 'eclipse' containers do? They're a lot more tasty than film!!!

They smell nicer, too
Unfortunately Eclipse containers are notoriously poor caches... they're not waterproof, and they're hard to get paper out of because of the little rim that runs around the inside.

If you need an excuse to buy 35mm film to get canisters, I have a nice Pentax 35mm SLR. Too good to throw out and wouldn't get anything for it on eBay these days

My local Library had some for people to take which they had converted to a Butt Bin by sticking a sticker on them.

Film Canisters are not waterproof either... do yourself a favour and invest in Sistema or buy some small "scuba tank" type containers.CaleD wrote:They smell nicer, too
