Where to buy new Garmins?

Post by SixStars » 20 June 09 4:06 pm

OK... I've narrowed down my new Garmin purchase after conducting research and the winner is.... an Oregon 300.

What I need now is a supplier. I want to buy local and I have a retailer in mind that supplies an Australian topo on DVD, which I consider a bonus. I'm hesitant to buy from overseas because of warranty issues, but also because I don't want to pay for inclusions(maps,DVDs) that may be only useful overseas.

Without infringing any commercial bias contingencies that may exist as part of using this forum, can anyone recommend a Garmin reseller that a simple Google search wouldn't reveal.

If you're not allowed to mention names here , then perhaps you could email me at beejay2780@yahoo.com

Cheers, SixStars

Don't know about google but www.garmin.com.au has a "where to buy" link that goes here.

Has the usual suspects listed along with a few others.

Also congratulations on your first post! Now that you have given up lurking, try changing "Always allow HTML:" to no in your forum profile to get formatting to stay put.

Thanks Damo,

all the bits and pieces that each seller offers (or doesn't offer) makes the final choice hard!

The best retailer is somebody that is local to your area, that you can go back for support if your unit breaks, or if you have questions or issues using your unit. If you're planning to buy over the net then one of the following:

Alex of Cartographics is one of Australia's original (and still very active) geocachers, and is very supportive of the geocaching community. http://www.cartographics.com.au or just look up the username "Alex". He will usually try to match the best local price if given the opportunity. Nearly all SA cachers buy their gear from him.

Alternatively you could try Nick at octapc.com over in Perth - He's not a geocacher afaik, but he runs the http://www.gpsaustralia.net forum which can be very useful if you have issues or questions about GPS features.

Together with the other good sellers, www.Ryda.com.au have one of the best prices to compare for Garmin products....and they are localish to you (Petersham, Sydney) with a storefront as well as the webstore :P

Good choice in GPSr - we bought our Oregon 300 a couple of months ago now from Johhny Appleseed. At the time they offered the best price around and also we received excellent service from them.

Cheers,
