Another Vodou bottom-dweller wanting to create Zombie TBs

I received an email via the GC site this evening
bottom-dweller wrote:Hello,

I noticed that you have a a TB missing. I was wondering if you would be willing to transfer it over to me? I would then re-create it and keep it alive.

Please let me know

Thanks,

bottom-dweller
Has anyone else heard from this stooge :?:

I have heard of this happening before but this is the first time I've been contacted ... I assume he's got my name from the Isle of the Dead :?

Interesting ...

I received a similar email. Same text, different name.

I don't understand the motivation. Can someone explain?

I changed the name for some misguided reason to protect the not so innocent but now the cat's out of the bag it was the same bloke

I got the same email.
Probably contacting anyone who has one in the TB graveyard.
Lousy cheapskate... they should buy TB tags just like everyone else.

I got exactly the same email.
I replied and said which one? Cause I wasn't aware any were missing.
He replied with the names of 2 of mine that most definitely are in Isle of the Dead... his words " non existant cache"... and could he restart them.
My response was ... I know ... I put them there... thanks but no thanks.

I was on the verge of asking why???? Very strange.

It gets him a TB without having to pay for it.

i.e. He finds dead TB's, you give him the tracking number and transfer it to him. He attaches a new tag (homemade) and he's got a TB without having to pay Groundspeak for a set of tags.

Just ignore him.

Which of course we could do as owners. A TB goes missing, use the spare tag you get. If it goes missing again you could create your own tag with a little note explaining why it doesn't have a real one.

Much better than giving it to some bozo who can't be bothered buying his own tags.

Personally, the one I had that has gone missing I haven't bothered using the spare tag as I don't have a similar item to place on it.

I got the same message today as well.
Obviously just going through the "isle of the dead" list.
Mine has been dead for a number of years so I don't see any reason to raise it from the dead. I just treated the email like the spam it is.

Probably not a coincidence! Geez, I wonder how many emails this bozo sent out, to raise enough attention for someone to complain to TPTB (assuming someone did.)

Oh, are we meant to ignore him??

oopsies, my email to him was...well.... let's just say I couldn't post it here in full, but contains the following:
Hello,

I noticed you were a xxx removed xxx who doesn't want to spend $8 to get a travel bug for yourself.
I will be willing to transfer it over to you if you xxxremoved for bad language xxx wine bottle all the way in.

You are a parasite on the game.
Please go away
Regards, warm kisses etc,

CraigRat
Kids, this isn't how responsible Adults handle these things, but I have never claimed to be either.

I would classify this kind of bulk solicitation from him as Spam, I do hope TPTB have a word to him, but as things seem to go, I'll probably get the warning

If you look at the GC profile page for Tonton-ca you will see that he has already convinced a few people to hand over their TB codes. I counted 12 where the last log indicates that the TB had been transfered over to him. I know that geacaching is different things to different people but sponging free TBs off people seems a bit of a low act to me.

Putting on my cynical hat: taking money of Groundspeak's wallet (by recycling lost TBs instead of buying new ones) is almost guaranteed to get him hot water!
