Caching Score

Post by teamkittens » 08 July 04 4:26 pm

I know a few people are already getting a little too carried away with their total number of caches found, but how about this extension of it.

Each cache is worth points to this value:

value = difficulty stars * terrain stars

so finding an easy 1.5/1.5 star drive by would be worth 2.25 points, while a cache with a cryptic puzzle on top of a distant mountain (5/5) would be worth up to 25 points.

You're cache score would be the total of all these cache finds added up.

I just find it a little strange that a very difficult cache awards you the same 'score' as a dead easy one. Of course you do get a lot more personal satisfaction when you defeat those evil ones. :D
(I haven't taken in account caches hidden at all currently)

Any comments?

Who keeps score?
That would mean Stargiver would have to check each cache's terrain and difficulity to work out each cacher's score. I think he would go on strike..

The cache count is not a serious competition and is not meant as such.

KarmicKev came up with a similar rating a couple of years ago (at least, I think I read it on his website that long ago) ... except he included the distance from your 'home' location as a third multiplier. The resulting points were then called 'GeoBrags'!
