TrigPointing
Re: TrigPointing
That is COOL! Great work everyone!
My only disappointment is that my two nearest trig points (one only 5 minutes walk away) aren't in the database!
I'm very happy that Mount Maria, on Tasmania's Maria Island is there though; another reason to return, and do the CLIMB!
Thanks again people!

Re: TrigPointing
Just got back onto the forums recently and was excited to see this up and running. Great work (even though there are a lot of trigs missing for the ACT).
This is an awesome addition!

If you can get me a list, I can load them up for ACT.Gwennie1984 wrote:Just got back onto the forums recently and was excited to see this up and running. Great work (even though there are a lot of trigs missing for the ACT).

I'll look into it. I've got a list, I just need to convert the coords to WSG (they are on ACT grid system).caughtatwork wrote:If you can get me a list, I can load them up for ACT.

Very possibly. I didn't source the data, I just loaded what I was given.mundoo wrote:The trig on Hindmarsh Island, SA isn't showing

Re: TrigPointing
What are we to do when we know a trigpoint can not be accessed legally. Case in point:
http://geocaching.com.au/cache/tp4544
This trig point is located next to government radio towers (refer this page for info: http://www.pnc.com.au/~richo/grn.htm). I stopped on Old Razorback Rd to see if I could get to the top of this particular hill some years back, as Mt Prudhoe is thought to be the Pyramid Hill written about by Watkin Tench, but the sign on the gate says no entry.
I would hate for a cacher to get into trouble trying to find this one.
Cheers,
Michael.

Re: TrigPointing
As mentioned in previous posts, *YOU* can archive it. The Trigs have been set up in such a way that any memmber can edit the listing. Just post an 'Archived' log on it explaining why, just as you have here, and then it gets taken off the list.

Re: TrigPointing
I've just imported the waymark category listing for "Australian Trig Points".
If you have a GPX or GPXLite file from waymarking for the "Australian Trig Points" category, you can upload this using the my/import function.
It checks for an existing TrigPoint within 161m to avoid loading duplicates.
I'm still not sure how we can do bulk imports. It may be that we need to get the data to me and I'll write a widget to upload them.

That's what I thought would be the case. Thanks to both of you for clearing it up for me.caughtatwork wrote:Also, as mentioned in the cache listing:

Is this it?

Question? This one is on private land but is easily viewable from the roadside a few feet away. There is no plaque/cairn etc as it is just steel supports etc. You don't have to touch it to be able to log it etc. and can take pics of your GPS sitting on a fence post in the foreground.
Is this one okay?

Re: TrigPointing
Sure thing.
If you get the chance, update the cache description with that information to make it easier for future finders.

This weekend seems to have been popular with TrigPoints. Quite a few had been found and logged this weekend. It also looks like a few people have taken a perfect opportunity to back log some of their past exploits at finding / discovering TrigPoints.
Well done everyone and thanks for your support in finding and logging these trigpoints. Hopefully you will continue to enjoy many more into the future.
