GSAK file of Tasmnia camping sites

Post by Cheesy pigs » 14 February 09 3:51 pm

Hi,

I am currently putting together a GSAK file of the free and cheap camp sites in Tasmania. This is largely based on this book:
Image
and follows their research into Tasmanian camping. The file includes vital information like whether there are toilets, running water or hot or cold showers.

The reason I mention this is I'd be willing to swap this file for any camping gpx files for other states of Australia, or even give it to anyone who wants it really. Currently the file has 94 entries and is 174 kb in size. It covers camping around the entire coast, but has not got a lot of the larger caravan/ camping sites as yet.

We just got a PM from somebody but the stupid MrsCP accidentally deleted it before Mr CP could read it. Could you (whoever it was) please re-send?

Isn't .gpx a GSAK Data File? One and the same?

technically I don't think this is a GSAK file ..
GSAK uses GPX yes, but its not owned by GSAK ie GPX is a XML STD format which can be used by any s/w.

I've done it using GSAK and am saving it as a gpx file. If that helps at all :D

Cheap and cheerful

Post by If » 15 February 09 6:28 pm

I've been making use of the hospitality of Forestry Tasmania some nights. Tonight is one of them :D
Lovely bush campsite on a ridgetop to the east of Ross :)
It's a little bit misty up here, but the peace and quiet is nice 8)

I've been putting together a set of campsites and campgrounds essentially in Victoria that I have visited. There's about 40 at the moment and you are welcome to them. In fact I had been thinking about the possibility of sharing them.

One issue - what about some sort of standardisation? eg. I've been using different symbols for them so they show up on the GPS, plus I try to take notes about things like toilet facilities and access.

Yeah my tas folder I have used waymark as the symbol because there isn't any waymarking here that I'm aware of.

I also mention facilities in the "short description" field, toilets, running water, showers etc.

I've used Locationless for Camps, Project APE for Access points (very helpful sometimes) and Whereigo for Caravan Parks. I don't mind exactly what is used and am happy to make changes.

I too try to put useful bits of info like toilets, etc in the Description. Then they show up in a PDA etc.
