I was looking at a nine sided (nonagonal?) object about 3.5 km SE of the Maralinga site.

I don't know how to post an image or I would show a Google Maps screen dump.

When I paste the coords I originally posted in my message into Google MAPS it shows the object I was referreing to. (Maybe a difference bewtween Google EARTH & Google MAPS??)

I think they are the roads cut in to the ground for the instumentation adn monitoring.

If you look at the US nuke sites in Nevada they have the same or similar layouts. (also scary is the AMOUNT of tests performed in Nevada... theres a google earth file out there that has all tyhe above and underground tests and in Nevada alone there are >200 detonations... really scary stuff)

Also, apparently they put strange roads and shapes in to get scale measurements from aerial photos.

Thanks, CraigRat. That all makes sense.

I have been re-reading Len Beadell's book "Blast the Bush" about the original atomic test at Emu and then at Maralinga. Just thought I would have a look on Google Maps and see what was there 50+ years on.

cheers

David

It's amazing how much stuff is still intact at a lot of these places, mainly because no-one can spend any duration ni these areas lest they get some kind of radiation sickness!
