Free WiFi at McDonalds
Need that PQ whilst on the road?
Want to check for insta-notifications in your emails?
Need to log a FTF before the real FTFer?
Can't live without posting to the GCA forums 20 times a day?
Forgot to pay and book online for camping fees for recent caching Events?
Time to pull into those large servos with Maccas and hook to the net for nothing.
The rollout of free internet to almost all Mcdonalds in Australia is underway. For a list of available locations (updately daily i believe) check out this site ==> mcdonalds-australia-store-wifi-locator.html , with a good FAQ located here ==> free-wifi-faq.html
BTW, there is no requirement to buy anything from McDonalds to gain free access. Just another option for those travelling cachers.

Yes, it will be truly free. It has always been a Telstra hotspot, with costs around $12 per hour, dependant on selection, however this new concept will be very handy indeed.Team Wibble wrote:So it will really be FREE wi - fi this time?
It has been available for free at some Maccas for some time....the one at Gosford in front of the Formula1 motel was always free IIRC.
Have a look at that FAQ link above and it will clearly tell you more than i possibly could.
I'll get back to you on that....Mr Router wrote: have those symptoms Is that bad
BTW the download limit of 50meg is per session. What do you expect for free?

The best part is you dont have to eat the chit to use the service, second best you wont get arrested infront of a new friends house borrowing theres Bargains all round
Finally a use for Maccas
I think maccas are behind the game, they sort of blew it by teaming up with Telstra, or more to the point the business plan Telstra use for all services -- charge till they're all broke.
3G and data services in general are finally becoming reasonable and you aren't stuck in fixed locations, such as restraunts, to use it.

With a good quality dipole you can sit up to half a block awayPapa Bear_Left wrote:I'll still refuse to make my third ever entrance into a MacDonald's store (the second time I was, quite literally, carried kicking and screaming. Mac woo hoo
I've been waiting for this since it was announced last year
I can see this being useful, as Papa Bear left said, for checking on those picture clues.
Especially on pushbike rides where I am travelling with just the GPSr and PDA
I'm not going to be giving up my local bakery addiction though
Mmmmm, bakeries

I've used it at the Bribie island turnoff. Absolutely free, but 50 MB limit per session. It has made planning for the big trip in March/April a whole lot easier. I was contemplating wireless broadband, then prepaid wireless broadband. Now, just going to use Maccas.
But 1 Q. Is it Australia wide, specifically SA, Vic?
Cheers
