Google street view now available in Australia

Post by Zytheran » 05 August 08 12:37 pm

Google Maps has today officially unveiled Street View for Australia, a feature which enables computer users to view and navigate 360 degree imagery of public roads around the country.

One more handy tool for casing an area for suitable cache hides before you even get there.

Plus all the other not so legal behaviors this now helps.:?
Like all tech, a double edged sword. :?:

G'day

It is looking nice. I played at http://maps.google.com today. Way too time consuming :)

Looking dry in Adelaide when they took the shots! Interesting the google earth shots for there have been updated recently as well, since I moved out of Wynn Vale whoever has moved in has bulldozed the backyard!

I hate to think how many terabytes of images they must have for Australia, let alone the rest of the world.

Noticed the updated google earth imagery of our house yesterday too.
The imagery was taken in February, and you can clearly see our kayak in the backyard, sitting there after finding Isle of Illusions a few weeks beforehand, and the birdbath we got given for Christmas. You can also tell how affective the greywater hose we bought was, our backyard lawn is the only green patch among all our neighbours....

   I just looked at our street and guess whose 4WD is in our yard? It's Liz and Bruce's!

How freaky is this view BTW? Gone are the days when you could throw in an unapproved shed or dam. We are being watched!!!

Our camo must be ok though as I can't pick out our cache "THENANKS Carapark" and it is a 20 Litre bucket right on our front property line. :P

Wow just had a look! My car is at mum and dad's 250 k's away - a rare occurance really - and I have washing on the line at my place - not so rare. Had a look at GC1FVMY - will be a bit of work to find GZ, I'm still looking for the silver landcruiser!

i reckon it could be a good resource for caching too, especially when its cold and wet and you've got not much else to do...
