Australia's First MEGA EVENT ???
Does it have to be in one location? Can it be a number of smaller gathering held simultaneously across the country?
Like nominate a weekend and then have local groups organise smaller local events. They each have their theme/structure, ie camping, local town etc. We seemed to have done a a number of smaller get togethers already, so it will be like having them all on at the same time. Mind you it will still require a fair amount of work by a lot of people.

Hmmm - I think you are on to something......Papa Bear_Left wrote:A Mega Event, like any other event, needs to be at a location, not scattered across a continent!
The ridiculous extreme, otherwise, would be an event that was held in every place where a cacher happened to be at a certain time. Hey Presto, super-mega-global event!

This is an interesting discussion, I personally don't think we have the numbers to get a Mega-Event up.
So when's it on?

Webguy's post highlights a significant aspect of a Mega-Event for me. As much as I like an event, for me to "invest" in driving over 6 hours or flying to an event it would need to be more than a bbq and a couple of days caching. We can easily fill in a long weekend within Victoria, so a Mega-Event would need to offer something I can't get normally. Briefly looking at US Mega-Events, they are like conferences, they have information sessions, company demo's, multiple activities, meals, competitions etc. This is the problem IMHO, we don't have the population to draw the companies and good luck to anyone wanting to run it. It would be a huge undertaking!Webguy wrote:3) Masses of caches for all types and levels and colours.
4) Plenty of places that can hold a huge amount of people for a conference.
So when's it on?

I'd love to go to a mega event. It's not all about the numbers. I'd love to meet people I've only ever abused, er I mean, "spoken to" on teh intarwebs. Finding a few caches would be nice too, but I'm not a huge numbers run guy, so 10 a day would be more than enough. 3 days = 30 caches to find and that would be nice.
I assume you're referring to me there C@W .. how nice, I'm touched..!
Seriously.. would be nice to go to an event like this. Meet up with all those I peeved with my initial post on GCA forums a while back.
C@W and vk3jap in Sumo suits.. yehaa...
Still with an event so big the practical reality is that the chance to mingle would be less, better off with more smaller events I'm thinking - like Bullengarook etc.

Notwithstanding that we almost certainly don't have the caching population at present to put on a mega-event, it would be great if a city/town were to put on a big event. With plenty of notice and some good organisation I'd like to think that very good numbers would turn up.
Maybe it would be a precursor to a real Mega event further down the track.
