Having read a recent post about not reading recent posts, I figure it's time to make a new post :D
Have you Googled your own name lately ?
You might be surprised how much information is out there :P
My own Google rating is extremely low. I could only find one hit on a very obscure site that I'm sure no one would even notice amongst my far more 'famous' namesakes scattered around the world :D
Be afraid, be very afraid

My caching name pops up on google, but that's only because I assumed the name of someone once famous, not because of caching. :)

I enter competitions (the entry forms at shops, online etc) so my maiden name is very "googleable" Now that I'm married my married name is shared by a specialist surgeon and she is very "googleable".
I was a little freaked a year or so ago when you could find the town I lived in, my job and 3 of my hobbies all by googling my name.

My maiden name is quite uncommon and there's only my parents and very few relatives with that name now. My married name is a lot more common.

If I (Miss Wibble that is) google my real name I get about 3 pages worth of links that are all concerned with me - mostly orienteering results pages, some work stuff thrown in and a few things from when I was at uni. As far as I can tell, I'm the only person in the world with my name.

Mr Wibble's surname is as common as muck, and given he shares his name with a famous historian, UK politician, Canadian politician, American Actor, NFL football player..... its impossible to google himself.
This is why Miss Wibble is not taking Mr Wibble's name after the wedding!

Googling Team Wibble is interesting. A few gc.com and links to here, and then apparently there's an online gaming clan called Team Wibble as well. Vaguely appropriate, they specialise in a lot of games that Mr Wibble plays anyway.

I get links to forums and pages I posted 20 years ago. As well as various media links. It is a bit scary - a future employer might read some of the things that were posted in "just for fun" forums years ago where the whole object was to mercilessly flame someone to death in one thread (all in fun), while in the next message having a totally sensible discussion with them. Half of that was in the pre internet days of dial up bulletin boards.

When I google my username, the first thing to come up is this forum followed by a few other forums and my flickr profile.

If I google my real (very uncommon) name, I find an ancestory website with information that I uploaded some years ago while tracing my family history.

There is also some other guy's golf handicap details listed!

Like Richary, I was a net-head before there even was an Internet, and there's still stuff online from those days.

Having an uncommon surname, almost all of the hits on "Ian Mackereth" are me, although a keen angler from Lancashire has made 'my' Google list lately.

Actually, it gives a reasonable cross-section of my interests: geocaching, general tech, sf, language, electronics. Hardly any photos, though...

Most of the "Bear_Left" hits refer to us, although there is a LiveJournal of a gay American man on the first or second page...

<p>Under mine I find some ancestry information that other people that have obviously created - and is incorrect as far as names of my (ex) wife and so on. Close but typos.

I get next to nothing.

I do get a listing as the chairman of a body corporate on the body corporate managers website. However I have not been chairman of this body corporate for about 8 years.

Oh and apparently I was a casketbearer at a funeral in the states - or was that my evil twin

These are the only 2 listings.

Is this all my life amounts to?

I get a "B-Grade" horror movie actor from the 60's, a businessman from NZ and a Student from the UK who like alcohol just a little too much.

You know what? I've never googled myself before - that was scary. I apparently have 2 Facebook accounts under different spellings of my real name (one in London and the other Seattle), Real Estate stuff came up from the sale of my last house, stuff from an email list I've been on for about 10yrs. My caching name brings up caching stuff of course, but my favourite is that I'm apparently into Japanese samuri amour. Cool!

Yes, three pages of results, mostly news reports about a murderer(!) and the very last two results are from me signing up to seti@home using my real name in 1999. I guess I've wised up a little since then!
I was surprised there were so few, there were a more real hits last time I checked...
And someone pretending to be a well travelled older female version of myself writing trip reports for the US and Europe... first time I've come across someone using my nick in over 10 years! :D
