Post by Dooghan » 21 April 08 8:25 pm

Maybe one day we could make our own cheap Geocoins, etc with one of these printers at home. The project is all under GNU licence

Going by the map on the site there would seem to be a couple of people in Australia that have made one. You might be able to get in contact with one of them and see where they got there's parts from.

Or get them to print you off one of your own!

Should make "washing the dishes" a thing of the past, just print some clean ones :D

Especially if the old ones (and any food scraps left on them) can be broken down to become the raw materials for the next lot.

Taken to the logical extreme, this technology makes physical objects just like digital ones: not unique, not scarce, not having any extrinsic value.

It makes having "stuff" valueless as a status symbol, since anyone can have as much "stuff" as they like. (Sort of like food in today's society; there's no cachet in being well-fed since just about everyone in Oz can afford more food than they need.)
The only things of value will be the stuff you can't auto-fabricate; artworks, services, etc.

Interesting times a-coming. As always!
