Uni, you are out voted. Arn't you sick of people ragging you. Next they will be donking you. Yep, even I had to look this term up, as I thought it was a bit naughty. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=donking.
Uni, do you listen to podcacher??? I must admit I do, and after a while, the yanky caching way does grow on you.
Did I say that?
clear skies, Astro.

No, I get sick of correcting people . Frankly Astro, I'd always assumed you were well-educated . I pronounced it 'cash' before geocaching, even before auxiliary computer memory had a name other than "buffer", when a cache was just a hidden store.TeamAstro wrote:Uni, you are out voted. Funnily enough, my daughter once complained to me that I'd taught her a different pronounciation to the majority. That's teenagers for you - not wanting to appear different. Little does she know that we're all different (except me).

Fritz - http://web.macquariedictionary.com.au/w ... FC75679834 (In Victoria, where I grew up, we called it strassberg. Also heard it called devon).
Deli - http://web.macquariedictionary.com.au/w ... FFC5780700 (also Milk Bar, corner shop)
Donk - http://web.macquariedictionary.com.au/w ... FC58285412 (surprisingly this is listed as SE NSW in origin, but I know of lots of crow eaters that use it. Also called doubling or dinking)
Crow eater - South Australian http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/crow_eater
Cached - being a Tasweigen, it seems they haven't invited you into the Bretheren. Although not all crow eaters use the term, I've heard the highest percentage of Australians using the pronounciation CASH in SA.
I prefer KAY-SHE if only differentiate it from money. There is no right or wrong way.

I listened to Spindoc Bob being interviewed on the cache-a-maniacs podcast the other day... It was good to hear it pronounced the 'proper'* way without any apologies!
*proper as indicated yet again by the polls

Or All Cashed Up!matmob wrote:Yeah! Never thought of that. How would you like to be called CASHED?!!
The two previous polls on the question both had almost 80% voting Caysh/Cayshing.
This one is following the trend.
Interesting why that is if it is the "wrong" way?

I have seen threads relating to this issue before and in the end I think it is just a personal choice. Having said that I think that we will continue to agree to disagree on which way is correct. But I really don't think it is that important the important thing is that we are all actually enjoying ourselves.
How do we say it? Well after we found out about Geocaching we went to the webiste to find out more and ended up on the Getting started with Geocaching.com page http://www.geocaching.com/about/ On this page it states:
Getting Started with Geocaching
(pronounced "geocashing")
So that is what we went with.

Here in NZ I am in the minority (about 15 to 20 % using the kash version but that is the way the septics pronounce it and it originated there after all.
Anyway the point of the sign on my camper-van looses its point if you say kayche-ing. . It is bad enough that some yahoos decided it indicated the driver was a d...khead!

Careful you don't lose credibility by using incorrect spelling.Navigull wrote:Anyway the point of the sign on my camper-van looses its point if you say kayche-ing.
