You say Tomato, I say ..... pronunciation of the word cache
I have been wondering how people on the forum pronounce Geocache and Geocaching. <br>
"Cash" or "Caysh"<p>
I edited to add the word "Cache" to the Thread Title as this topic once again raised it's head. In future searching should be able to find it. <br>
Unfortunately I deleted the poll results which on 04/09/05 were as follows:
<p>
How do you pronounce Geocaching?<br>
"Cash" 16% [ 17 ]<br>
"Caysh" 78% [ 82 ]<br>
Other. 2% [ 3 ]<br>
Who cares. 1% [ 2 ]<br>
Total Votes : 104
<p>
No point in replacing the poll at this stage. Thanks to those who voted.

It's "Cash"
see http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=CACHE
the pronunciation key is quite explicit.
(I may be in the minority with one vote so far
but I'm correct )

Well, after hunting around online for an Australian English dictionary, then realising I had one in the bookshelf behind me, I was astonished to discover that "cash" was the "proper" pronunciation. The idea of a having a "weapons cash" just seems a bit odd, I'm sure I've always used caysh. I always wondered why my (English) mother always referred to me going geocashing, now I know.

Oh, and mache is from papier mache I think, and there's supposed to be an accent above the e - hence the "mashay" pronunciation.

Yep - Kath and myself are both cayshers, we don't speak with a southern drawl either . <p>And if you don't like the way we say it, we're sorry, but that's how its pronounced down here (it seems by the majority at least). <p> Perhaps one day the rest of the world will realise their errors and prounce it our way <p> Majority rules ok!
