Where would you like to see the next Mega Event held?
Where would you like to see the next Mega Event held?
I thought I would put this up to see where people are interested in seeing what state the next one should held.
Perhaps people are reluctant to put their hand up to organise one thinking that people will not travel so far or would like to see it close to the masses. Thats my belief in having one in Qld, but I could be surprised.
Anyhow just don't pick your home state but rather where you would like to see it held. Remember there is the experience of caching in a different part of the country.
You can vote for up to three locations as well.

NT added. You can change your votes.
If you have already voted you need to vote again, as it wpuld appear that by adding NT it cleared the votes. Apologies for that.

How about an option for "Somewhere quite close to me, but organised by Someone Else"?
I reckon that'd be a winner!

Well I'd say the next Aussie Mega event should be in Australia but in the intervening year NZ should have one. Being realistic - a Mega event every year in each county might be a bit much to hope for but if NZ and Australia alternate it gives the option to get to one each year. I would assume that NZ could get the 500 participants on it's own so any Aussies who fly over would just add to the numbers.

It would be nice (to try) to attend a Mega Event in NZ. Good idea Mix, alternating does sound like the way forward to achieve any sort of numbers near the 500 target.

Two cities I think could offer a great Mega Event
Ballarat, Victoria
Mt Gambier, South Australia
I'd be happy to be on any organising committee for the next Mega Event.
While I live in Adelaide I do believe I've skills (organisation and ICT) to contribute.

I'd go to Kiwi land for a Mega.
That would be awesome.

Re: Where would you like to see the next Mega Event held?
Personally NT would be nice to dream about, but I can't see it getting the numbers given the distances. Not enough people could take the time to drive, and airfares to Darwin are ridiculously overpriced.
I agree that Ballarat would be good, Mt Gambier might be a bit far for some of the Queensland contingent. Dubbo would be another good option if there are enough active locals left.
Canberra would be a good choice as well, with some very active locals and easy air links into the place for those who want to fly and then hire a car for the period. And one heck of a lot of caches waiting for finds!
I agree though, I don't think Australia could support one every year and alternating with NZ would be a good plan. I would happily attend the next one if I could wherever it is held after the great time I had in Wagga Wagga, whether it involves driving or flying and hiring a car (though that limits camping options).

Re: Where would you like to see the next Mega Event held?
Picking specific locations is assuming that there is a local group of cachers willing to organise it.
NZ would be nice but alternate years is a big ask for them, and may be best in a cycle with Australian states. Of course the kiwi cachers would be best to answer that one of course. NZ population is equivalent to Qlds.
I think logistically Australasia could probalby only host one every two to three years, remembering that the Wagga crew took nearly two years. And if its too often you wont sustain the numbers needed for a mega event.
Just my thoughts.

Re: Where would you like to see the next Mega Event held?
If we're choosing our own personal choice of location, I would choose NZ in a heartbeat...followed by ACT and QLD. I think any immediate plans for a Mega will be best served along the east coast of Australia where the numbers of cachers are greatest, and requiring the least amount of travel for the majority...at least until we get a couple under our belt. It would be great to think in a few years time that it wouldn't matter where a Mega event would be held...we'd still get the numbers.

Re: Where would you like to see the next Mega Event held?
South East Queensland has a lot satelite towns around Brisbane that have the infrastructure in the local showgrounds to hold a Mega Event. Buildings, luncheon rooms, toilets and showers for campers.
