Honestly, how can this piece of bile inducing excuse for music:

Right Round by Flo Rida Feat. Ke$ha

Be number one?

There needs to be a committee set up where samples of classic 80's tracks need to be approved before they can be released on such tripe.
Damn whippers snappers with their hippin' and a hoppin' and their bippin' and a boppin'.

I'm getting too old.

Ha ha. I might take you up on that offer.

Does anyone actually know how the music charts work now? I mean you see a song go straight to number one in the first week and then vanish after a few weeks.

Many moons ago you would see songs hang around for many, many weeks. MJ's Thriller for example. Maybe a bad example. Sorry that was another album.

Shamon.

They are based on retail sales. http://www.ariacharts.com.au/
It's only been the last couple of years they started counting online music sales figures. Considering online "singles" sales would be huge compared to retail store singles sales that would have an effect on what gets to number one.
eg Youth Group, with a cover of a 20 year old soppy love song hits the big time because they get they song played on "The OC".

There's a bit of fiddling in the figures, too, to stop some anomalies.
One I heard from someone in the biz was that the perennial sellers like Dark Side of the Moon would otherwise occasionally hit #1 again, if two or three purchasers placed their usual orders for stock all at the same time.
They normally buy quite a few of these classics at once as they know they're not fads and will sell steadily.
If the sales reps convince enough big shops that this latest recycled 80's crap is going to be the Next Big Thing, and get them to all place orders at the same time, it goes to #1 and gets the resulting sales (baa! baa!) justify the whole deal.

That rap/hip-hop music I can live with...
But if you really want great music you have to listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers!!
Great Music and Also maybe "Californiacation" should be Podcachers theme song as they live in San Diego, California and they are tallking about Cation (Caching).
I'm sure i Might have a few that disagree!

Now electronic music is where life is heading and I am talking about original stuff not remixed songs
The 'Godfather' of electro music is back apparently!
