On the one hand, Groundspeak should give little credence to a SBA with no finds, but. . . don't you think these caches should have been maintained in a timely manner anyway?caughtatwork wrote:Examples:

If you don't give them any ammunition they can't shoot at you.

Groundspeak need to incorporate some checking process so that only cachers with a certain number of hides and/or finds can suggest a cache be archived.
It seems someone has a bee in their bonnet is going through all disabled caches over a certain time period and suggesting they be archived.

Are you lot upset because this person wants to be anonymous, or because they've posted all the SBAs? There are only 35 logs (in SA).
If the logs were against my caches and I disagreed, I'd just delete the logs.
In the end though, this person has done good. A lot of long overdue maintenance (or promises thereof) or archiving has been done as a result.
Incidentally, it's not me - if it was, I'd have logged one against "Unlock The Mystery"

Here we go again !
I think the Calculon and Socko comic strip just got a new character.
Groundspeak could develop any number of ways of reducing sockpuppets:(these are only examples)
* new accounts must be over a week old or have 5 finds before being able to post an SBA
* flag if a user posts more than 5 SBAs in 24 hours .
* An automatic Email or a nag screen when you log in if you have a maintenance request or an unavailable cache for more than 30 days.
* if a cacher has 3 or more caches tagged as "requires maintenance" or unavailable, any new caches submitted are placed on hold and don't go into the reviewers queue until the maintenance is done. Sure, an owner could just mark down a maintenance visit, but in the long run, it will bite you on the butt and you'll only be feeding the puppets
I understand that non-caching commitments, seasonal road closures etc. can be a problem etc, but really there is no excuse for neglecting one that is within a few km's of home that has been missing for 9 months.
The bottom line is that caches need to fixed in a timely manner
However if you are pissed off enough to go on an SBA spree, do it with your own account, post it as a "requires maintenance" first and give your reasons to each cache, not a standard copy+paste note.
My 2cents.
PS. I am NOT Socko, Calculon, Cutter of Code, Bahumut or any other member of the Sock Puppet community

Me Too.
I'm not defending people who do not maintain their caches. There is nothing more frustrating than looking for a cache only to check the logs and the past 5 are DNF's with some previous finders that have checked the cache. Or having a cache close to home continually showing up is searches that can not be found.
I fail to understand why people can not log an SBA on their own user name. It is not a bad thing it is just a note that it needs urgent action.caughtatwork wrote:It's the anonymity that riles me. If you want to place a SBA, do it under your own ID.
Mind you, it's exactly this sort of reaction that prompts people to set up the sockpuppet in fear of being abused.

Another storm in a teacup.
Let's step back and get some perspective.
Chill out and let the sock puppets do their dance whilst you ignore them.
If they post an SBA and it is deserved, then the cache will get archived.
If they feel the need to be anonymous, so what? Is it really a threat to the world as we know it??
Where's that teapot?
