G'day

Image

They are shooting for the Guinness Book of Records record for the most downloads in a 24 hour period. If you are interested, you can just click on the image to pledge to download Firefox on the day.

The image in my posting is a LINK (click on it) to the Spread Firefox page where you can pledge to download Firefox on the big day. They will keep you informed as to when that will happen.

Does that make sense?

I don't know, but when I check this morning there was only 2079 Australian pledges which seemed low to me.

It does, doesn't it? And I'd expect more from NZ, too, given that a significant code contributor is a Kiwi who returned and now works from there.

The really surprising number to me is Nigeria. Less than 20! And I know from my spam filter that EVERYONE there is a)online and b)holding a fortune that just needs my bank account to get out of the country!

I've been running the final beta on the home machine for a few weeks now. Quite nice. I like the better detail you get on previous things you have been to when you start typing in the web address of something.

Has Firefox overtaken IE yet in terms of how many use it?

Not even close, mainly for the reason that IE is on every computer that has windows, which is approx 90-95% of the market.

Among the more tech savvy communities, FF usage is quite high, but still somewhat behind.

FYI On this site, the stats for the last month show (forgive the formatting):

Code: Select all

1. Internet Explorer 18,050 57.71%
2. Firefox 9,914 31.70%
3. Konqueror 1,030 3.29%
4. Safari 988 3.16%
5. Mozilla 957 3.06%
And heres the O.S spread:

Code: Select all

1. Windows	27,263 87.16%
2. Linux 2,334 7.46%
3. Macintosh 1,614 5.16%
