Post by solomonfamily » 17 February 08 7:59 am

Gzzzzzz In 200 meters there is a really hot 1/1... go for it.... you can do it.... open it up now......

Found the following article in The Age, we use a Garmin Nuvi with a female voice - love to see some development here.

Interesting how dismissive Navman and Garmin are of user created and 3rd party voices. Tomtom is incredibly popular, and I think the voices are a big part of the reason why.

Whenever I travel with Oenze we use Tom Tom. For nearly a year we listened to bland Aussie Ken and I thought that was our only choice. Then I found we had a whole galaxy of voices. Now we listen to an English girl and her soothing tones mean that I get a lot less frustrated when she stuffs up.

I downloaded a couple of voices for the TomTom 1XL+ but have never been able to make them work. Always fancied Sarah Jessica Parker telling me what to do, I might say yes!

Now that would be a bit freaky traineediplomat...

My TomTom usually has my iPod hooked up to it, mostly for listening to podcasts. I'm just imagining GeoTalk being paused to give some directions, and the voice not changing...

Hmmm.. come to think of it, it could be kinda funny! So, howsaboudit Spindoc?

(Edit:
Come to think of it, i've got all the files lying around somewhere for compiling TomTom voice files... So if SpindocBob is happy to provide the audio, i'll volunteer to do the putting together bit :) )

I had my daughter (at 2 years old) record a Tomtom version for her Grandfather, so Grandmother wouldn't complain about the driving directions! Go around the round around! :D

Deep or pan?
So we also need a male version expressing frustration at the drivers poor or dangerous driving and lack of navigation skills and ability to take directions. :)
