GPSr setup for New Zealand

I have an etrex Summit GPSr which i am taking to NZ. I believe I need to 'recalibrate' this for it to work properly in NZ.

I have checked the unit and the only things i can see are 'MAP DATUM' which is currently set to AUS Geod '66 and the Compas. There is no apparent MAP DATUM for NZ.

Can anyone set me straight?

Dare say you'll need WGS84 - infact, you need it here too!

There's a couple of NZ datums (data?) but the most recent one (NZGD2000) is pretty close to WGS84, so use that. On a map, it'll get you close enough to a hut or a pass.

And for geocaching, we _all_ use WGS84, so you should, indeed, have your GPSr set to that here as well as in NZ!

Where are you off to in NZ?

Thankyou for your help. This also corrected a problem with the GPSr's accuracy.

Were you actually finding caches 200 odd metres from the listed coords?!
