Hello Deaf Geocachers?

Hi There
I'm a Deaf person in Western Australia who loves Geocaching and wondered if there are any other deaf people around the world the same as me! I know of one other Deaf person here in Oz (Australia) who is hooked on geocaching too. If you are Deaf please let me know and we can share experiences.
Cheers!

Nope... I'm not deaf... but I guess it must be difficult while you're searching for a cache not being able to hear people who may be approaching. Do you find this to be a problem, or is there anything else about being deaf that makes geocaching difficult?

The Garner Family,

No i dont have any problems with GPS. I always rely on my eyes to do the work for me hehe.

Thanks for asking.

That's a bit harsh. Most of us Eastern Staters do actually consider WA to be part of Australia.

Welcome to the Forum!

Actually, Geocaching is one of the few activities where my hearing problem doesn't matter. There are a few little things, like I'll keep looking after someone declares they've found it , and advantages too, like I can keep walking even though the others might be calling me to stop for a rest and they just think I can't hear them

Having had the pleasure of meeting 'Everlasting' and her sister 'Sebavo' who I might add is deaf and is a cacher you couldn't meet 2 lovelier ladies.
One hurdle I found when I was in contact with the ladies was that you or they cant ring for a clue/hint on a particular cache. Everything had to be done by text or email and as we all know detail can often be left out when texting. This wasn't a huge hurdle but one that us people who can hear often take for granted.
Nice to have met you Everlasting.

you can't keep up with them  Staying out to all hours of the night just to grab another cache or two........up at the crack of dawn.

Please slow down next time so we can keep up :P

After meeting Everlasting, i have a renewed determination (and a personal interest) to learn Sign Language.....Thanks :D

I felt a little guilty about one of our caches, which has a music box which plays a tune that you need to name the composer of.

Varuna and Everlasting both found it, but with a bit of assistance.

Hi there Deaf Geocachers...

I must admit... I think I surprised Everlasting when I met her and a friend or hers from Qld and started signing... I have learnt a little Auslan and my dad has completed the TAFE course for Auslan, so that helps...

I would love to meat deaf cachers in Qld, Australia, & over the world...

maybe we can have a no speaking event in Qld in January ?!?!
