Vietnam/Cambodia
Just returned from 2 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia. We managed to knock over 4 geocaches in Vietnam. While visiting the temples at Angkor in Cambodia we were looking for a cache in the temple that the movie Tomb Raider was filmed in. Our tour guide was interested in what we were up to and after explaining what geocaching is all about he was hooked. Unfortunately the satellite signal was not good due to all the structure and trees but even though we didn't find the cache it was great to convert a local to our wonderful pursuit!!

Re: Vietnam/Cambodia
We have cached in Vietnam (mostly virtuals) and in Cambodia. The cache you mentioned wasn't out when we visited Angkor Wat in 2008. We did Ankor Wat GCA071 which was a relatively easy find. There had been a miscommunication with our guide and so for the first day of our trip we just had his brother driving us around. As he spoke very little English he would just pull up at the next site and we would get out, wander around and then get back in the van when we were ready. It was more by luck than good management that we arrived at the cache site and were able to log a find without our local connection being any the wiser. It is an awesome place and we loved the fact that we could get a cache find there.
We love caching on our trips overseas and in 2009 were able to add caching by taxi in Cape Town, South Africa, including Table Mountain. This year we hope to add Argentina, Peru and Chile to our caching map. Would love to hear from anyone with experience in those countries especially Machu Pichu.

We also found GCA071 early last year. I see now that there are several more geocaches in the area. Hooray! Another good reason to return .
Re: Vietnam/Cambodia
It looks like we may be off to Vietnam later this year and we have seen there is only 45 caches for the country, somehow I don't think we will be getting them all. If we get one or two we will be happy. We will be in Ha Long Bay so should get the earth cache. Apart from that we will just be enjoying the country and taking lots of photos.

I went to vietnam in 2005 for a stop over to Holland to visit family. Unfortunately I did not know about geocaching back then. But had a great time over their. But it is really hot (humid). Went up to Sapa for a few days near the chinese border. And the FOOD! is great!

Re: Vietnam/Cambodia
I was in Cambodia in 1992 with the UN, so well before caching was invented. But I did get to Angkor Wat and some other spots around the place (with armed Australian troops with me!). But I would love to go back and see how the place has changed.
C'mon Lotto, do your thing so I can afford the trip!

Re: Vietnam/Cambodia
If you havent been there since 1992 Im sure you would be shocked to see the development in Siem Reap...its full of huge tourist hotels, bars, eaterys and bright lights.
...but when you get out of town out near the temples the poverty of the country people is a real eye opener.

Re: Vietnam/Cambodia
Goodness me you geocachers of all people should know better than comparing a city that is 21 degrees North with another city that is 12 degrees south...hardly a fair comparison
