I had considered hosting an event but when you are not familiar with an area it is difficult to choose a venue. And when you are travelling it is impossible to check things out in advance.

Why not start a thread in each of the appropriate state forums, suggest a time and a date that suits you and a general location, and leave the rest to the locals.

A series of events.."BBQ's across Australia"?
Locals will know of good urban parks (with coords) with free BBQ facilities.
Turn up with food and beer, couldn't be easier.
Daylight saving kicks in in a couple of weeks so even weeknight evenings is an option with the later nights.
Propose a date in each state listings, locals will sort out a central place pretty quickly and advise facilities and coords.

And we should still be able to get one going for 3/12 here in Wagga too, like the "Great Aussie BBQ etc - Sthn NSW", so if the cannucks are still going to be here, keep an eye out soon or PM/email me.
Much discussion is taking place this weekend while we're on that group caching trip to the Mountains. :D

BBQ meet up! Sounds great!

I'm coming over to Australia for a couple of weeks with my dad and wanted to try caching oz style while I have the chance. Gives me an excuse to get out the walking boots and climb some mountains! Will check other topics for the gatherings. Don't suppose anyone knows any good hotels round Perth? http://www.luxuryhotelaustralia.com Dads grumbling about the Holiday Inn. Will be ditching him asap!

Get yer maps oot :D :D

One upcoming event listed in Western Australia at the moment. http://geocaching.com.au/dashboard/au/wa/
Try posting in the Western Australia area for possible hotel suggestions.
