Visiting Brisbane Dec2011/Jan 2012

Post by efb01 » 05 December 11 6:56 am

I will be visiting from the United States. I'll be in Brisbane the last week of Dec 2011 and the first week of January 2012. Any suggestions of fun or must-see caches would be appreciated. Thanks!

Will you have transport or relying on public transport?

the new Gecko Trail series is not too far from the CBD and can be accessed by bus and the series can be walked.

Remember that Brisbane is in the middle of Summer so it can be very hot. Make sure you have plenty of water and a good hat.

Hi. Many other good locations aren't on this list. Caches will vary but here are some of my sightseeing favourites:

1. The Mt. Coot-tha botanic gardens, Mt. Coot-tha lookout, Sir Samuel Griffith Drive, and picnic areas and walks.
2. (south) Gold Coast hinterland (Currumbin or Tallebudgera or Numinbah Valley, Springbrook lookouts waterfalls and walks).
3. (northwest) Samford, Samford Valley, Dayboro, Mt Mee
or Samford, Mt Glorious
or The Gap (suburb), Mt Nebo, Mt Glorious.
4. (northeast) Moreton Bay coastline at/from Shornecliff, Sandgate, Brighton, Redcliffe, Scarborough, ...

or anywhere else on the Northside  however Southsiders may disagree.
**New Years Eve fireworks viewed from "Southbank" or anywhere along the river near the city.

If you can get to the Gold Coast (70 or so km South of Brisbane), the power trail on the Spit near Surfers Paradise is worth doing, nice trail and iconic views of the Pacific ocean at the end of it. Will take a bit of organisation - transport there, transport to get back to the start of the trail. Bikes would be the best way to do it - and take a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be staying with family in West End, and probably mostly using public transportation.
