asus eee ultra mobile notebook
This is me and "Whitey" (The other half named "her") my 701 browsing the Geocaching Australia Forum in San Pedro, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, Central America.
I got the Eee PC specifically for the trip and couldn't recommend it highly enough. Has been so great to have it. Most of the time I haven't even needed to go to an Internet cafe as finding a cafe with free wifi has been easy.
Backing up photos from the camera, music, blogging.... very glad to have her with us.

Well you can add us to the list of people who have one... after a recent trip to Brisbane in which our main computer died we went out and grabbed one and managed to get all the important software onto it. We now run it with Ozi, GSAK, Mapsource, etc and have been more than happy with it, there is no way we would have found as many caches this month without it as the GPS only allows 500 waypoints.<P>Thanks to all who have contributed to this post as it certainly made the decision easier when the time came to purchase.
Now you have seen the light time to for something that handles a few more way points You got one with XP, which did you get ?big_matt wrote: as the GPS only allows 500 waypoints.<P>Thanks to all who have contributed to this post as it certainly made the decision easier when the time came to purchase.

Having just bought an Acer Aspire One from that Officeworks store very close to you "Echo" I can advise that they are very stable. Sitting here now, if I push the unit backwards it rocks back on its base straight away.Papa Bear_Left wrote:There's really little to separate most of the current crop of netbooks!Echo wrote:What makes the Eee better than the Acer Aspire.
Bear in mind that some of us (me) are not computer savvy.
One think I've seen written about the Asire is that it's not very stable (tends to fall backwards), which is something to try for yourself with a display model.
<p>
It was a toss up between the Dell (with 16gig SD card-10gig only free) @ $599 or the eePC or the HP with Vista, and the Acer. In the end I took the Acer because it has XP, plenty of space on hard disk and as Officeworks are now owned by Bunnings, they beat my best price by 5%.

My gorgeous eldest son mobilized his siblings and the reluctant spouse to buy me a fab gift, so I'm now the delighted owner of a 10" Eee pc running XP. Eldest son chose that size and the hard drive version as it had more space - 160gb, which he thought would suit my needs.
I love it. It's sturdy, stable, and by downloading the newest driver for the touchpad - released 27/10/08 - I've been able to turn off the tap thing that I found too sensitive.
It's easy to use and boots very quickly. I'm thrilled with it, and even my son's impressed enough that he wants one.

Has anyone tried or know if it's possible to use a mobile phone as a bluetooth GPSr with these?
I'd like to use my exisiting Nokia 6110 Navigator if possible. I have it connected via bluetooth and can now use mobile 'broadband' (ha!) in the 3g area. Would be nice if I could connect to the inbuilt GPSr somehow. I don't think any of the native software supports such a thing though....

WooHoo! I got an email from Asus (the EEE PC people) a while ago, asking me to fill in a User Survey, which I did.
Then yesterday, I got an email telling me that I'd won a 30GB USB drive for doing so!
(It could've been a new netbook, but I no complain!)
Since these things go for $120-150, I'm stoked!
