asus eee ultra mobile notebook
I didn't make it clear, purely on how it looks, not on it's performance the HP Mini 2133 visually looks the best. Although with the use of Vista, at least HP won't have to adjust their netbook lineup too much, as MS doesn't allow dual core Atoms to be licenced to XP Home for these netbooks, so it's Linux or Vista for the Atom Dual Core N330 chips when they make their way into netbooks, or more likely than not the Eee Box style of extremely small desktopsteam unicycle wrote:CanSolo - which one are you actually recommending here? Acer One Aspire
2 weeks ago I received my Acer Aspire One 9.5inch screen, 1.6atom processor, 1gig ram,120gig HD. This is a great unit and having XP installed was my main reason for choosing this over the HP with Vista.
This unit set my bank balance back $599 after $100 cashback and has a 3 year pick up and return warranty.
The only thing this unit lacks is bluetooth but a $7 dongle has solved the problem and it connects nicely to the Holux receiver.
With plenty of room I have installed Office07, GSAK, Discover Aus, Garmin City Navigator, Ozi Explorer and 5gigs of maps, UBD Australian city streets, UBD regional towns and country, 2008 Digital Natmaps, Tom Tom 8, Hema Desert, Hema Australia 4wd Raster maps, Wheris Australia 14, C4 marine-6gigs, etc etc and plenty of spare room.
I have given this unit some rough treatment over these two weeks and it has performed excellently.

Re: Acer One Aspire
What BT dongle did you get? The one I bought doesn't (seem to) support the serial port profile.Mr.Coffee and the Clan wrote: The only thing this unit lacks is bluetooth but a $7 dongle has solved the problem and it connects nicely to the Holux receiver.

I got one of these for MBL's EEE 900, mainly so it could stay plugged in all the time for use with her phone:

Neat place, isn't it? I've bought a few things there and found their service to be very good. The items get sent from their suppliers, typically in Hong Kong, and usually take a week or two to arrive.Mr.Coffee and the Clan wrote:Browsing the site they do have some cheap bluetooth units, I will be interested to see what the prices are at the Computer swap meet tomorrow. In the meantime it looks like I will be browsing this site for a while tonight.

I have just returned from JB - $598 for a 1000H. Too good to resist, seeing how they only had 3 left at that price.Papa Bear_Left wrote:A couple of weeks ago now I got myself an EEE 1000H to replace a stolen 'ordinary' laptop. $650 for a 10" screen, 80GB hard-drive, 1GB RAM, wi-fi, bluetooth, WinXP.
Mmmm...Eee PC
(Now I've just got to get it home and get all the software installed!)

There's really little to separate most of the current crop of netbooks!Echo wrote:What makes the Eee better than the Acer Aspire.
Bear in mind that some of us (me) are not computer savvy.
They tend to have the same processor (Atom), running at the same speed (1.6GHz), with the same amount of memory (1GB) and the same screen resolution (1024x600) The hard drive size varies from 80GB to 160GB, which probably doesn't matter much, and the battery life is a big differentiator (3 cell/3-4 hours vs 6 cell/6-7 hours)
One think I've seen written about the Asire is that it's not very stable (tends to fall backwards), which is something to try for yourself with a display model.
There might be more accessories for the EEEs, but there's not many that are all that specific other than some cases.
So, if you get a good deal on one or the other, you'll probably be as happy with one as with the other!
