Converting wpt files to Magellan POI`s

Post by Thomo » 24 May 07 10:21 pm

Dunno if I`m missing something here but I am having a bit of trouble converting files from Ozi to use in my Magellan 600.
I thought it would be pretty easy and straight forward using the Magellan mapsend manager software but I just can`t get it to work.

For those that know how to do it, could you please tell me what I`m doing wrong.

I have an OziExplorer wpt file I`d like to transfer to the Magellan into the "MY POI`s" folder.
First I open the Mapsend manager program, click on "MANAGE GPS FILES" from the left hand menu,
then select " CONVERT DATA TO EXPLORIST FORMAT",
then set the file location folder and select the wpt file, and then select the "MY POI`s" as destination folder on the GPS,
when I press "CONVERT", I always get the "......is invalid and cannot be converted" message.

The only way I have successfully been able to transfer files is by using GSAK, and exporting the files directly to the Magellan from there.

Am I doing anything wrong or am I trying to do something that just can`t be done ?

Thanks in advance.
Darren.

It all started when you bought the magellan
Go back to the shop and say "can i please change this for a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx".
Problem solved :!: :!:

Another "useless" comment from knot_gillty!!

I have a 600 and previously a Garmin, and I like them both!!

I have not needed to use Ozi with the 600, but I will have a look at it for u over the weekend...

I use Mapsend Lite, Aus Topo (and Babel if I have to).

Seems you already have the answer: do it in GSAK!

Is there a problem with that?

Ozi wpt files and Magellan wpt files are not compatible. The GSAK approach is the best one. :)

Why not do an export from Ozi! Load waypoints to GPS! works with Garmin

That should work too. If the waypoints are already in GSAK, either way is ok.

Problem is the files I have won`t import into GSAK because they are not GPX LOC or ZIP files. They are WPT files that are not compatable with GSAK.

Will give this a try, I was looking for something like a "Export Waypoints" option in the drop down menus but couldn`t find it.

If you have downloaded a pocket and digested it to GSAK you then export a Ozi waypoint file! This loaded to Ozi you can then export to GPS from Ozi very easy!

The problem is Magellan Explorist use POI waypoints. As for me I am havving a difficult time getting GSAK to sent waypoints my a Explorist XL because nothing will recognise USB even in XP, and nowhere to send POI's to a TOM TOM 910. sending to the XL says magproto error and the Tom Tom does not show the waypoints.

Look under the Magellan Menu -> Send Waypoints to GPS.
Have you set Ozi to talk to your 600? (File -> Configuration -> GPS, then set GPS Model to 'Magellan USB')

Just done that in the configuration, and now can send wpts to the GPS. Thanks to all that helped, and those who wanted to ensure the battle between Magellan and Garmin continues...
