no good though :(
I also tried to download shonkymaps last night - got some of the way (~35 Mb) and then got kicked out. When I re-tried, the download speed was now horribly slow (10k/sec) :( . My solution was to use the download manager "GetRight" (www.getright.com). Early this morning my broadband connection went down (@#$! modem) with 191 Mb downloaded. I rebooted it and GetRight was able to pick up from where it left off!

Even with the slow download speed, by morning tea-time I had shonkymaps installed on my 60Csx. It is, in one word: GREAT! I have been happily using the free version of Tracks4Australia (1.20) for some time, but I find shonkymaps have a lot more detail and information.

Highly recommended - thanks shonkylogic and Dooghan! :)

I have track4aus 1.2 now, how better are the shonky maps and in which way, just contours, or roads as well?

I'm unable to download the maps, it says I don't have permissions to download the file.

The contours look the same to me (Contours Australia 1.21 is used in conjunction with Tracks4Australia 1.20). I initially thought there were more roads, but on closer inspection they seem to be the same, but better labelled.

The big differences are in the addition of features such as creeks, swamps, powerlines, parks, reserves, golf-courses, mines, residential areas and other details. It not only looks "prettier", but the details are useful for navigation.

If we all start downloading it from you is it going to cause problems for your site :?:

Would a torrent or similar be in order?

They would seem to be a problem with the server. As I don't own the web space they is not much I can do. The owner does know about the problem and is looking into it. The only thing I can suggest is to use a download manager to get a good speed. Looks like my good intention to get these maps out to the wider community has not gone to plan :(

Hi
I have my copy now, thanks very much, not a lot of change in my area but parks and streams are now on my screen, very nice.
Thanks
Andrew

So far I'v had to resume 5+ times on yours :? Is this likly due to traffic? Up to 13% now.

Think I'd better md5 check this one.

i never download anything over 10mb without a download manager. its just good practice.

What sort of speeds are you getting of my server just out of interest?

I've just started downloading from your mirror aloysius and it seems to be going strongly at 41 K/sec, i.e it's not stopping and starting!
