MapRequest 1.1 beta 1
I am looking for a few people to try out MapRequest 1.1b1.
MapRequest is a program that can piece together bits of maps from compatible web based servers (e.g. ArcIMS and WMS sites) and save them as a single image along with a .map calibration file for Ozi Explorer. See http://maprequest.sourceforge.net/ for more info.
This version adds a couple of handy features:
* The ability to discover which map "services" an ArcIMS site offers by reading its catalog
* The ability to superimpose multiple ArcIMS services from the same site. (e.g. Topo + Cadastral + Hill shade from NSW Lands Department)
* Caches map descriptions for better performance
* Try to discover the map's coordinate system where posisble
If you are interested you can download the installer from http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mapreq ... irror=osdn
If you have an older version installed you can install the new version over the top, or you can uninstall the old version first.

The app is java based and is cross platform http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mapreq ... g_mirror=0
will give you the platform independent version.
I have Java 1.5 I assume 1.4 and above is ok.

Check the FAQ!mtrax wrote:I've downloaded and selected ACT map.. how do I zoom in...?
and how do I add waypoints to map?
or is this purely an export tool?
Draw a red box with your mouse and click Request to zoom in. Change the width & height to request a bigger map.
Yes this is purely an export tool. Save it for Ozi and display the waypoints in Ozi.
ok got it... perhaps some hints on the interface would help...Ebenezer wrote:

I don't have Oziexplorer so I guess I;m outta luck.
There's a trial version if you're keen.mtrax wrote:ok got it... perhaps some hints on the interface would help...Ebenezer wrote:

I think the trail version only accept ".bmp" maps, but thanks I'll look into thatzactyl wrote:There's a trial version if you're keen.mtrax wrote:ok got it... perhaps some hints on the interface would help...Ebenezer wrote:

Unfortunately this site does not use either ArcIMS or WMS, so MapRequest does not work with it.Cached wrote:Any idea if it can work with this site?

For ArcIMS map sites, some "services" (the least indented layers in the layer list) either don't work, or don't work when used in conjunction with other services. For these maps try requesting the map without that service checked in the layer list.
For some WMS map sites certain layers cannot be requested in conjunction with other layers. In fact some maps are set up to only allow one of the available layers to be displayed. Try starting with just one layer selected, and work up until it causes an error.
If you are having trouble getting a map to work that you think should work, send me a private message and I can take a look.
