Using Google Earth to track found/unfound caches
Hey all,
There are a bunch of smart people here so I'm sure someone already does this and can tell me how to do what I want to do.
Currently I use the GCA kml to see caches in Google Earth. I also import my logs as an overlay in order to mark off the ones I have done.
What I want to do is be able to remove caches. That is, when I have done a lot of caches in an area (for example, Adelaide metro), it is difficult to see which ones I haven't found yet. I would like to be able to see only the caches I haven't yet found in Google Earth and remove them when I have.
Suggestions?
Cheers - nomad
BTW - why is it that some archived caches don't show as such in Google Earth? And is there any way of hiding archived caches so they don't show up?

Oops - meant to add that I don't use GSAK because I am a mac user and I am not yet a premium member.setsujoku wrote:Do you use GSAK to manage your caches? If so then you cant filter out your found caches (and disabled ones) and export a KML file from that into Google Earth
What else you got setsujoku?

Go here, make a query of cache you have not found and click on the KML link
[edit] Sorry, I just checked, it's only for GCA caches[/edit]

If you do manage your caches in GPX format, you can convert them to KML files here

It's not going to be quick, but it'll work...
Go to your hitlist: http://geocaching.com.au/search/?h=nomad_penguin
Shift-click or middle mouse button click (or hold down your single mouse button for a couple of seconds or the weird squiggly button on the keyboard or whatever you do on a Mac!) on the first cache name to open it in a new window or tab.
Click the "Google Earth" link on the right hand side under "Software". Wait until it loads into Google Earth, then close the window/tab (alternatively, right click [or whatever Macs do] and save the link, and open them in GE later).
Repeat for the next cache in the list. Save them all into a folder in Google Earth, delete each one as you find it.

Re: Using Google Earth to track found/unfound caches
Sometimes the "Archive" log doesn't come through in the feed, so they still show up. Which caches?nomad_penguin wrote:BTW - why is it that some archived caches don't show as such in Google Earth? And is there any way of hiding archived caches so they don't show up?

Lots and lots but here are some in Adelaide to get you started:zactyl wrote:Sometimes the "Archive" log doesn't come through in the feed, so they still show up. Some of these look like they might fit your description.
Strange that some of them have had archive logs come though, but they're only marked as disabled. One of those that can do will read this and fix it I'm sure
Get the newest GCA Google Earth Network Link, it doesn't show disabled caches: http://geocaching.com.au/caches/available.kml
