Just got a Nokia 6233 phone. Has most of the bells and whistles and can
even apparently get web pages if you fork out a few $$$ on the plan.
Question: exporting GSAK files as html generates a great set of files to
go
paperless - but I can't get the phone to open the files (does not support
that file format).
Can anyone help? What application is required so the phone can read these files. Or are there other tricks?
Thanks and clear skies
Astro.

Thanks Cached for posting this.
Still can't work it out. Even downloaded Opera Mini and installed on phone. This software still wants to browse internet -
I have put the GSAK htm export files on the phone but both Nokia and Opera browser applications don't want to look at the phone or memory card in the phone. So close to paperless caching but so far.
least my printer works....

Not sure if this will have any effect but is the Nokia browser capable of reading standard html pages and if so, how big is the page you're generating out of GSAK?
Have you tried loading a smaller file (say just one or two pages)?
Have you tried saving it into either WML or xHTML formats?
I remember vaguely from using html exports from GSAK to a Palm that the pages were in the order of 500 - 600K so for a mobile phone that would be a fair amount of text to load up in one hit!
Anyway, as I don't have a similar phone I can't be much more help as I'm running a phone now considered ancient as it's on the prepaid market

If it is on your memory card, try accessing (& bookmarking) it as:
file://localhost/e:/path/on/memory/card/file.html
from your browser. Replace "path/on/memory/card" with the full directory name that the file is in.
Or, install "FExplorer", browse to the index.html file in the memory card, and open it from there. Both work for me on a 6630, and should work on basically any series 60. Yours is a series 40, but I think the behavior is similar.

I do (did) this with my PDA (pretty dead appliance.) There are a few index files but each cache gets it's own small html file. They are only 6k-12k in size so this shouldn't be a problem. As suggested work out how the phone stores it's files and then access via file://<path>index.htmjuzmac wrote:Not sure if this will have any effect but is the Nokia browser capable of reading standard html pages and if so, how big is the page you're generating out of GSAK?

I had the same sort of problem initially with the PDA in working out where to put files in it's memory and then setting up the PDA to access the index.htm as the home page..

thanks for this but this did not work.fehrgo wrote:If it is on your memory card, try accessing (& bookmarking) it as:

The browser wants to access the net - I can't even ask it where to point - it just wants to look online, not in my phone. I'm sure if I had another browser that had this fn, I might have some hope.
I am obviously missing the basics of phone operation at the moment.
Phone operation looks completely different to PDA - I play with an iMate at work so sort of know what they are about. Nokia 6233 nothing like it.
SO, I'm sure Cached and me are still wanting help.... hanging out...
clear skies, Astro.

In the manual for the phone I found on the web the following was stated.Cached wrote:Have had a bash
what I thought would be the solution didn't work for me either. I figured if I got the path right it would work - but it didn't.
The error I got was "unsupported format"
Is XHTML different enough from plain HTML to be causing this error. With the phone browser you can view the services that use wireless markup language (WML) or extensible
hypertext markup language (XHTML) on their pages. Appearance may vary due to screen size. You may not be
able to view all details of the Internet pages.

I've asked over on the GSAK board, will see if we get some help there with outputting to xhtml or wml - I think that is probably the solution to the problem.

thanks everyone so far. Looks like the other file format could be the answer we are possibly all looking for. There are many NOKIA phones out there so people who never thought about using the phone in their pocket for paperless caching will have a big smile on their faces. I hope Clyde can figure it out (if this is infact the answer).
cheers and clear happy new year skies!!
