Post by EcoTeam » 10 October 03 12:43 am

I just stumbled across this:
http://www.custommaps.net/images/mwyedn1.htm
Looks to be every MelWay map from edition 1 online as JPG files.

Yes it's pretty old. It shows Waverley Park as "Proposed VFL Development Area". so it is early 60s at the earliest.
Can anyone else find any date determinants on these maps?

It's from 1966, when the first edition of Melways was published. It did take them a number of years to do all the cartography, so there may be some things that were out of date by the time it was published.

While I'm sure that the maps would be useless for geocaching, they are a great history lesson. I have spent over two hours looking at just a couple of maps and compairing them to the same map from the current edition of Melways.

Thanks for finding the site and publishing a link to it here.
