Discussion about software such as GSAK, OziExplorer etc, as well as all things hardware, GPSrs, laptops, PDAs, paperless caching, cables etc

Thanks caughtatwork :D . I was going to try and keep a summary page every now and then. Appreciate you taking on that responsibility, and agree that this will be an interesting piece of information.

Thought I might just mention WAAS at this point. Does anyone know its effect on accuracy of GPSrs in Australia atm?

Its in another thread somewhere.
In short, if anything WAAS will DECREASE your accuracy as there are no base stations in this region. the current advice is to DISABLE WAAS on yuor GPSr in Australia.

Well if anybody wants to open a can of worms we could get into "averaging" ? Now there's an invitation if there ever was one :D

Cheers, Kerry.

give me some good stuff for the wiki too

My GPS does averaging (or so it claims) and it gives me a figure in metres of the result. I kind of assume it is saying "most of the points I am getting are within 4.8m of these coords"

averaging

Post by Snowy2630 » 23 December 05 5:33 pm

I am of the Explorist 600 faith, but am unsure of how it "averages". I assume that like earlier Magellans it just does this automatically if you are in the one place long enough. Sorry I havent RTFMed enough to find this out myself. Can anyone help?
PS I also use an old (13yrs now?) Promark X and it is very good at "averaging".
Merry Xmas everybody.
