I open Google Earth, notice a new cache (via the GCA feed), click on it and SEND TO GPS! It's foolproof, free, picks up GCA caches, I don't have to muck around with GPX files and a bunch of other programs. Now if I could only combine my great idea with some programming knowledge...
Anyone able to tell me if this could work? I'm guessing it'd need GPSbabel or something as a back end.
It's workable, but you'll be a day or so late if you use the GCA feed or in slightly the wrong place if you use the gc.com feed...
Mind you, a good macro in GSAk and emails from C@W and gc.com isn't so hard to set up, and after that it's a one-button process to update your GPS, your PDA, your PC mapping programs, etc.

Ah, but I'm a broke, fulltime dad, and a tightarse to boot... I don't have the time or inclination to go after a lot of caches, and I'd rather spend the small amount of money I do have buying ammo tins and stocking them
To do it with GSAK I'd need to register GSAK, and buy a Geocaching.com membership. Neither of which I can justify given the financial situation and the small amount of caching I do.
Thanks for the responses though, you've inspired me to get off my lazy (tight) arse and learn some Google Earth code...

I think GSAK is a good investment. Been playing with V6.5 and like the new stuff. I also think the google earth macro is very good as it shows you exactly where it is, no errors introduced.

Not just very good, it's bloody fantastic it is.
The only way to get anything similar is loading a GPX file into OziExplorer or DiscoverAus, and that costs money and time and doesn't do the job nearly as well.

Ozi to GoogleEarth is great for showing your track in Google Earth, don't even need Ozi, just plug in your Garmin, a couple of clicks to download and save track, click "Open in GE" and you're there!

I see the skull eyes. But what on earth is the cleared Boomerang shape just to the west?

The newest version of Google Earth has done something odd to the icons displayed for the Cache feed. All are displayed as a blue crossed box.

the icons are from the palletes supplied with google earth, usually found in C:Program FilesGoogleGoogle Earthres
The latest version is downloading now. I'll see what happens when I install same.
edit:
after install - now version 4.0.1693 (beta)
There are a couple of changes - locationless are now a 9 on yellow, archived a red square, shutterspots a cloud with rain, multi a paper and magnifying glass.
No Blue crossed boxes on mine.
I'll have a look at the pallette changes and tweak the code over the weekend.

oops
I was using the dev feed, not the production one.
Both the production and beta feeds show the cross. The dev feed has the different icons, similar to the ones in the galley.
