Data cable
We have just purchased a data cable for our e-trex and are keen to download waypoints using it and GSAK before heading out on Saturday.
This is probably a straight forward question, but I'll ask anyway....... We have heaps of waypoints in the GPS currently. If I download waypoints now, will it overwrite these or add to them?

Past exprience has shown that anoverwrite will occur if there are same name issues. This was a big problem for me until I realised I had set up GSAK with the wrong data about my GPS... now there are no issues.
Just make sure that you tell the software how many characters there are in the waypoint name.
example a Garmin 12 uses only 6 characters, where as other garmins use 8 or 12.

For future reference, if you think there is some chance of damage to your waypoints (or tracks), download them to the PC first, then upload your changes.
If the changes mess up your GPS, you can delete all the waypoints, then upload the copy you made by doing the download before you did the upload.

From Hong Kong, maybe try http://www.pc-mobile.net/gedc.htm (prices are in $US). Note that you need 2 components for their cables: The end that connects to the etrex, and the end that connects to your PC or PDA.fhlai wrote:Can anyone tell me where I can buy a data cable for etrex with reasonable price.
