I've been thinking about buying a copy of oziexplorer.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who buys these maps as to their quality and usefulness.

This might make oziexplorer worth the expense.

Sorry but if you don't have Ozi already I doubt a 1:1,000,000 scale map for $2 will make it worth while :? .

But you can download for free!

Don't think the resolution would be good enough for caching. Might work for driving around. Tempted to ask a question about the copyright on the maps :)

Already did, and yes they are "copyrighted" but he refuses to answer if it's "his" copyright.

If I had the maps, I would buy oziexplorer - a bit pointless otherwise :D

Ozi is pretty functional just as shareware. Download it anyway, there are a few free maps linked to on his site as well as www.gpsoz.com (I think they have some). Gives you an idea what it will do.

Not necessarily. You can scan in paper maps and then calibrate them. Lots of people do this with Topos etc, and this was one of Ozi's first major uses before pre-packaged maps became widely available (for a price).
Many geocachers have large scale scaned maps of cities they can give you (I can give you one of Sydney), and these are very useful for plotting all the caches on and planing caching trips. I used this way for several years before I got a street level map.

I scan in my own maps still. I've scanned in street level maps of Brisbane, Rockhampton and Mackay. The Brisbane ones will get a work out this weekend. Now I'm looking at scanning in some 100k maps I've got of the Rockhampton area.

Just looking at the image he has on ebay the maps look like screen captures from DiscoverAus...so Magellan copyright data - a very naughty boy.
