It seems like a silly decision. But I don't think it will hurt a huge amount (even for Clyde). As soon as someone asks on a forum (even the GC ones) what is the best program, someone will post the link. Unless the moderators are instructed to delete any references to GSAK. Which might be going over the top even for them.

But yes, GSAK makes life so much easier to organise caching. Clyde is friendly and approachable - a backup mishap during a reformat meant I lost all personal emails over the weekend, including registration codes for programs. A quick email to Clyde and 10 minutes later I had the code back.

Try that with a big commercial enterprise. And if Jeremy can't see that making caching easier to organise will only get more people doing it, well it speaks for itself.

Kind of makes me wonder why I/we bother with Yanks. But we can't tar 'em all with the same brush can we :!: <p>Wayne

Ohh ohh , I like that one!! :) Most likely going to happen in the future IMO.

I do think heÂ’s smart enough to realise that the GSAK provides a supplementary income but he doesnÂ’t want to alienate anyone (or appear that way anyway..)

Let's not go too crazy with the rumours, folks, lest we start to believe them. :) I'm reasonably sure that GSAK could stand on it's own merits, even in the face of what some might consider anti-competitive behaviour.

Damn, and I had a big unsubstantiated rumour after looking through the product list ...

I heard, from the pilot of a black helicopter*, that there could be an issue with products that support the open-gpx format as well as the gc-gpx format.
(* You need a black helicopter for a really good conspiracy)

This maybe buried under the $ issue, as a single point of cache management across multiple sites may be viewed as a threat.

perhaps the truth is closer than we think...
this morning we landed our black helicopter behind a grassy knoll staking out our next cache location, which, of course, will be in tangles' back yard.
anyway, another black helicopter landed right beside us (don't you hate that?) and a crewmember got out and walked up to us

looking us right in the eye, he said: "nslookup gpxspinner.com"
naturally, we replied:"66.60.157.24"
without a moment's hesitation, he said: "nslookup geocachingadmin.com"
we replied: "66.60.157.... omg!"
he walked back into their helicopter and flew off

bizarre! what does it all mean?

That the UN has started geocaching? ... Oh! you meant the nslookup, not the black helicopters.

I would be surprised if 10% of his traffic comes from the link on gc.com. Links are pretty much good for only boosting one's google ranking which results in better google search outcomes where I suspect most of his traffic comes from. The link will be more value for that than traffic and if everyone else, as has been suggested links to GSAK any negative from delisting at gc.com will be reduced.

That said, if you put the link on a page with a lot of other links its value will be significantly reduced. Also if your Google ranking is below 4 the link will probably have little value.

All right! Who let the cat out of the bag and told EcoDave about the site?
I thought we had an agreement, people.

Just don't tell him about the portable devices that home in coordinates.
