It seems like a silly decision. But I don't think it will hurt a huge amount (even for Clyde). As soon as someone asks on a forum (even the GC ones) what is the best program, someone will post the link. Unless the moderators are instructed to delete any references to GSAK. Which might be going over the top even for them.
But yes, GSAK makes life so much easier to organise caching. Clyde is friendly and approachable - a backup mishap during a reformat meant I lost all personal emails over the weekend, including registration codes for programs. A quick email to Clyde and 10 minutes later I had the code back.
Try that with a big commercial enterprise. And if Jeremy can't see that making caching easier to organise will only get more people doing it, well it speaks for itself.

I do think heÂ’s smart enough to realise that the GSAK provides a supplementary income but he doesnÂ’t want to alienate anyone (or appear that way anyway..)

Damn, and I had a big unsubstantiated rumour after looking through the product list ...Mind Socket wrote:Let's not go too crazy with the rumours, folks, lest we start to believe them.
I heard, from the pilot of a black helicopter*, that there could be an issue with products that support the open-gpx format as well as the gc-gpx format.
(* You need a black helicopter for a really good conspiracy)
This maybe buried under the $ issue, as a single point of cache management across multiple sites may be viewed as a threat.
perhaps the truth is closer than we think...EcoTeam wrote: Or maybe

this morning we landed our black helicopter behind a grassy knoll staking out our next cache location, which, of course, will be in tangles' back yard.
anyway, another black helicopter landed right beside us (don't you hate that?) and a crewmember got out and walked up to us
looking us right in the eye, he said: "nslookup gpxspinner.com"
naturally, we replied:"66.60.157.24"
without a moment's hesitation, he said: "nslookup geocachingadmin.com"
we replied: "66.60.157.... omg!"
he walked back into their helicopter and flew off
bizarre! what does it all mean?

I would be surprised if 10% of his traffic comes from the link on gc.com. Links are pretty much good for only boosting one's google ranking which results in better google search outcomes where I suspect most of his traffic comes from. The link will be more value for that than traffic and if everyone else, as has been suggested links to GSAK any negative from delisting at gc.com will be reduced.EcoTeam wrote:There are plenty of options. There are a million and one ways to drive traffic to your site that don't cost a cent. No need to involve GC.com, although that would help greatly of course.
That said, if you put the link on a page with a lot of other links its value will be significantly reduced. Also if your Google ranking is below 4 the link will probably have little value.
