Maps for Ozi Explorer
We need to update our maps for our travels to the Qld Mega. Is there any free maps that the community can suggest that are compatible with Ozi explorer for pc. TIA

Do you already use internet maps with Ozi?
If not, see here: http://www.oziexplorer3.com/eng/osm.html

No - hadn't thought of using them - we tend to use Ozi when we are in areas when the in-car doesn't cope so that would mean that we couldn't rely on having a data connection. I see it is considered experimental - has anyone tried it (even cached) in the back blocks?

Re: Maps for Ozi Explorer
I've been using it for years on the desktop PC, and we have used it in the car with a mobile broadband dongle and our little Asus laptop.
In the end, we just got sick of lugging a laptop around for the moving map feature, and just bought a decent GPSr with maps.

Re: Maps for Ozi Explorer
It may be experimental but has been working fairly well for years, though unfortunately it has lost the capability to use nearmaps. Also I tend to find google satellite just loops and doesn't load (either on the home or work laptop), but virtual earth satellite seems to work ok.
As for using it without a data connection, if you view the area first with a data connection it will I believe cache some of the data but I'm not sure how much - which means you won't need to download it again on the road. Nowadays I just tend to use the iPhone but Ozi can be useful to plan a loop or similar, I might look at one of the loops from Stanthorpe down to Tenterfield one day of the mega which seems to have a lot of caches available.
