Discussion about software such as GSAK, OziExplorer etc, as well as all things hardware, GPSrs, laptops, PDAs, paperless caching, cables etc

I don't know much about GPS units - I have only used the Etrex H for hunting down a few caches and my phone GPS occassionally. A friend was given a Navman MY50T as a gift a year ago but just told me he hasn't been using it because the maps are out of date (missing some areas completely) and he would have to pay a large subscription fee to access new maps. I was wondering about whether there are any open source GPS maps available, and if so, would they be an improvement on old Navman maps? I figure if anyone knows the answer to this question it will probably be a geocacher.
