At some point I'm going to have to root my phone but the instructions on doing this are very fragmented and I haven't felt comfortable with them as yet.
I'm looking at adding that feature soon, but given the app is less than 1Mb + 800kb for data , I'd be interested what sort of memory your device has?
The HTC Desire has 576Mb of internal RAM, and I have an 8 Gb SD card.

Most of my apps are stored on the SD card but after the Froyo system and the following apps which can't be switched out the SD card, I only have internally 5.72Mb left and I'm getting low memory warnings. I can't install any more apps which use any significant amount of internal memory.

Swype 13.84Mb
Maps 11.24 Mb
Market 5.84 MB (I keep uninstalling this and going back to the base version, but it keeps reinstalling itself)
HTC Sync 1.18Mb
Street View 604 kB
TM World Clock 408 KB
Missed Call 348 KB
GCWatch 200 KB
Battery Solo Widget 180 KB
Aussie Weather Radar 148 KB
Carhome Licence 148 KB
Telstra Net Meter 96 KB
ok clearly there is something else using all your RAM as those don't even add up to 60Mb so whats using 500Mb on your internal RAM.
Perhaps your browser cache or some other data?

I cleared all browser cache, history, form data, etc., and all apps cached data, but only got about 1mb back.
I have about 400 contacts which would be stored internally I think.
I'm trying to find out where the photos are stored as they would take up a fair bit of space.
I deleted all the photos after saving them to my PC, and it made no difference, so they must have been on the card.

I bet if your syncing with FB and Google some of those thumbnail pictures are copied down to your memory too , perhaps limit the # of contacts get an app to give you a break down of your storage.
anyway this is probably best discussed on another thread ...

In all seriousness it might be time to look at rooting and reflashing your device and getting rid of SenseUI as it chews up a fantastic amount of space on the device. The desire has bugger all RAM in the first place, and SenseUI on top of it just doesn't help.... plus Telstra and HTC chose a VERY poor memory partitioning setup, allocating WAY more memory to System stuff than needed!

The default Telstra/HTC build has only 120MB allocated for apps if I'm not mistaken.

I'm running CM7 (android 2.4.4) on my Desire and I have now got about 290MB of App space (68 mb free with a LOT of apps installed)

With GA cacher moved to my SD card it is only taking up about 256k of app space

Which rooting process did you follow Craig (perhaps start a new thread if appropriate).
Thanks.

Some significant changes to the app has just been pushed up.
the main being the app now supports Logging your visit directly from the APP.

0.20
NEW LogVisit Feature available on Details Screen
refresh geocache Count on main screen after Resume
progress dialog to details load for WP (launch from URI/email link)
new password setting; required for Logging visit feature
check logon/ passwd button on setting screen
fixed bug showing new caches on map
refresh geocache details menu option on details screen (for Moveable caches)
stability improvements

so if you have any issues as per usual let me know.

I have not been able to load caches today (was trying to get the frogs) - it does the little circling thing and then says that is has stopped unexpectedly and asks me to force close.

I found and logged three leapfrog caches in the field this evening.
Works very nicely indeed.

Clear the user data. I found that one update caused the same issue, but clearing the data allowed it to continue.
You might have to Google to find out how to clear app data on your model phone.

Thanks, after looking into clearing user data it was going to restore factory settings (no contacts etc). Uninstalling and reinstalling the app seems to have worked though

=D> =D> I'm so much more technological this year. Searching for and logging CGA caches in the field on a Galaxy II. And getting twitter feed on the phone of others moving and logging GCA. Such a leap forward from last year (pun intended) \:D/ \:D/

Yeah, I mean the user data for the app. Good to know delete and reinstall works. Now if anyone else has that problem the community can advise on a fix.
