What's up with RobLisa.com?

Post by Big Red Expeditions » 19 October 04 12:09 am

Does anyone know what's been up with the RobLisa geocache search engine for the last few weeks? I got a fresh list some weeks ago, but since then I haven't been able to get anything, and there's been no response from my email inquiry. Anyone know?

Gitsham as in Bull Bar Gitshams ??

And Yes it appears GC have blocked anyone who is scraping the site now.

Maybe doing that means their servers will be avaliable for 5 minutes a day :P

I'm a bit pissed off with Roblisa being offline. They very cleverly had the facility to rename the waypoints with intelligent codes such as MC for multi's etc. which saved you the trouble of going after them if you didn't have the sheets on you.

Yep, it is indeed as in Gitsham Bull Bars. The company was run by my late grandfather but was sold to Fruehauf before I was even born as my understanding of the story goes. They specialised in making aluminium truck bodies and the bull bars are really only a sideline. When I was at school 14 years ago, I was occasionally referred to as "mudflap" on account of having my name stamped onto the mudflap of all council trucks.

Can I get you any other bits of family history Piggy?

:D :D :D :D :D

GSAK has the ability to do something similar by applying a couple of parameters to the waypoint generation process - set once and forget. Should provide the same functionality.

Thanks, Slider
I've figured it out now and it does exactly that only with even more options. You might say I've gone %code crazy modding up the waypoint output for GSAK. I have the waypoints saved using the GC code, and then a space, then with the first 5 letters of the type of cache that it is. The information field has then a 1 to 5 for difficulty, 1 to 5 for terrain and then the 4 most recent found or DNF's followed by as much of the name will fit such that for example "Pegasus" will read from my MAP76S as:

GCGXZZ TRAD - Waypoint

2/2 FFNN PEGASUS - Info

If only Garmin would change the firmware to allow more in the info slot. It would take about 10k of my available 24mb tops!

Oh, by the way I got an email this morning from Rob at RobLisa.com and he's fixed the scripting problem that had them off air for a while. I've gone and done the right thing and become a premium member anyways and it's nice to have the complete info in GSAK now, but I've tested RobLisa.com and true to his word, it is working now..

no, it's not typical. rob doesn't usually come in here so you might want to email him using the email address on his geocache page.
