GPS chaos: How a $30 box can jam your life

Post by Doppelfrog » 07 March 11 10:47 pm

Apologies if that has been posted before (didn't see it), but this is a really interesting article on how dependant we are generally on GPS (and not just for geocaching :) )
According to the electronic display on the ship's bridge, the Galatea was suddenly flying at Mach speeds over northern Europe and Ireland. Then alarms sounded. The ship's navigation backup – its gyrocompass – crashed, because it uses GPS to provide corrections. The radar did the same. Even the ship's satellite communications failed, because GPS points the antenna in the right direction.

I have no idea if the said product would make it into the country. customs would probably filter it out.
I have however ordered other items from them , all legal. Swag for caches, mini keyring torches 20 for 20c each mini compasses 20 for 50c each. I had them on hand in less than 2 weeks.
The rare earth magnets arent worth thier price, the ones i ordered arrived, all linked together ,and broke in attempting to separate them,or when they attached to the first piece of metal they came near.
maybe the bigger ones would have been a better chioce.
