Cachefinders2 just spotted this website... looks pretty, and is regularly updated from a photo perspective. Looks like it uses OSM data. But from what I can tell you cant search by Co-ords and doesnt do directions... so pretty useless... for now

Re: www.nearmap.com
The images are updates in some areas MONTHLY which is awesome
Yes they use OSM for the streets and you can use THEIR images to trace your OSM streets from, which is double good!
Pity the images in my area are not great

Re: www.nearmap.com
Nearmap is brilliant in my area. Updates really regularly. I can go back and see what dates the photo's were taken of my place - I can see when my cousin was interstate (car in backyard), her parents visited (winnebago in driveway), Wackys were visiting, etc. I can see the expressway being built and how it progressed.
I've just discovered that it is useable with ozi internet maps now too.

Very recent, however I can tell that the apparent date isn't the real date the image was taken on, it was 3 days later than the listed date

Re: www.nearmap.com
I'm a bit annoyed with it, yes the images are brilliant quality and I use it for work. But last time I checked they hadn't updated the Liverpool area since July. Wanted to see the damage when Liverpool Council got torched (but our dish stayed up on top). So from what I have seen in the Sydney area the updates have fallen behind what they promised, on the other hand there is no indication how they are making money from it.
Re: www.nearmap.com
they have a facebook group which posts daily/weekly updates of where they are flying...

Explains how they finance it!Our community (free) license coverage is driven by our licensed customers. i.e. if they pay for an area to be captured, we fly it and give that information to the public free of charge.

Re: www.nearmap.com
Richary,
I'm a valuer for the state govt here in SA.
We were using NearMaps for work for a while. As you can imagine, it is brilliant having up-to-date aerial photography so we could check if a new house has been built yet etc.
Then all-of-a-sudden, the owners of NearMaps decided that they wanted $10,000/seat/year for the commercial licence! Guess what? We're not going to pay that sort of money (times 70 people) so now we don't have access to it.
So when you say "use it for work", you probably mean (if you don't have a commercial licence) that you "view it at home when you think about something of interest that you noticed at work".

Re: www.nearmap.com
Yes I am probably cheating, I like the higher res than available on the well out of date google satellite images. It lets me zoom in on possible path obstructions, but it's not that useful a tool, I only use it once every couple of months for work (so no way I would be paying what they are asking). I use it a bit more for personal interest.
Though if I don't want to use their site, I can happily use OziExplorer internet maps and select NearMaps and get the info anyway, and Ozi is registered.

Re: www.nearmap.com
Seems that Nearmap gets "discovered" by forum members on a regular basis
Here are some previous threads

Best way to utilise the images for geocaching is via OziExplorer (you can plot waypoints tracks etc over live feed from Nearmap) or you can use Mobile Atlas Creator ( http://mobac.dnsalias.org/ )to make calibrated images for use with OziExplorer/Ce and a range of other programs.
Nearmaps also have there own program for creating calibrated images for use with external programs (eg GIS) - called Hypertiles

Cheers

Re: www.nearmap.com
I so hope Qantas doesn't put that one on next time I have a flight
Photo stitching does come with it's problems, for a while Google Earth had a picture of Circular Quay in Sydney that showed one ferry running over the back of a Rivercat. They had updated one segment of the area to show the QE2 or something in at the International Passenger Terminal.

Re: www.nearmap.com
I'm so excited. I can see my house and even my bins. That's how clear the images are. Last image was Dec 30 2010, now that is way better than google earth, where I see nothing.

Re: www.nearmap.com
I thought I should add this in case people haven't already seen it...
My favourite use of NearMap is via GSAK. So:
- Tools menu
- Options
- HTML Tab
- In the "Custom URLs" box, add the following line:
NearMap=http://www.nearmap.com/?q=@%lat,%lon&ll=%lat,%lon
- OK to close
Then you can right click any cache and select "Custom URL... NearMap" which gives a nice view of where the cache should be (with all the usual accuracy caveats for the maps and saved coordinates).
I should note that you can add a "&z=20" to the end of the above line, and 20 can be changed to suit your preferred default "zoom in" level.
Cheers,
Murf.
