Garmin Oregon 200 Troubleshooting

Post by aussie-O's » 09 December 10 3:39 pm

I just loaded a new gpx and map onto my oregon, and now when I turn it on, it starts to go through the loading process, until it says "loading waypoints, tracks and routes", when it just turns itself off. Any ideas? I can't really take it to Garmin, because I'm traveling with it tomorrow.

could it be that the PQ is too big for the O200?

this one has good information in general:

I have a 550 and when I updated the software some time ago it caused an error which shut it down - a new update was released which apparently addressed the problem.

Could possibly be a similar case for you?? Good luck!

When I connect it up to the computer it doesn't even show up!

Eek... You are now outside the realms of my troubleshooting ability! No doubt someone wiser will weigh in with a comment!

I get the odd freeze on startup. Usually after loading a new gpx. Remove the batteries for a few seconds and then replace and restart.

I get that too. When it does come back up, I often find the GPX was corrupt.

Thanks, and I've got it sorted. How can you tell which gpx was corrupted? And is it just solved by downloading it again off the GCA/GC website?

I think the load of the GPX gets corrupted by the GPS when it crashes, rather than the original GPX being corrupt.
