What is the Cheapest GPSr with Electronic Compass?

Post by DnA! » 08 July 10 11:24 am

I'm looking for a GPSr with an electronic compass built in so I can put the coordinates of a cache in it, hand it over to the kids, and they can follow the arrow to the cache.

I don't want to spend much and I don't need any other functionality.

What should I buy?

You'd probably be looking at this; the Garmin eTrex Vista H (octapc includes a USB cord and DVD of free topo maps), so around the $239 mark + p&h.

You probably just need the cheapest GPS you can find, doesn't sound like you need an electronic compass.
There are a number of Garmin yellow Etrex units on eBay for well under $100.

many a veteran cacher used yellow etrex's  nearly unbreakable, Curly Router used one for years, before discovering his 60csx
