Utrackme for iphone

Post by Skippy » 22 May 10 5:36 pm

Has anyone got or used the utrackme app on their iphone

Might be nice to set up a Australian map page just like they do on the Exploroz site

Just had a look on the itunes store and it doesn't look terribly useful for my needs.

What did you have in mind and what are Exploreoz doing with it?

I have absolutely no intention of broadcasting my whereabouts to all and sundry.

Yet you log your finds on GC... that only pinpoints your location to a 3m area.... you're even kind enough to give the time you were there..

Sorry Guys, couldn't resist...

Yep true, but not in real time. My Logs show where I was, not where I am now.

I thought of activating Latitude on my Nexus One (Android phone), but most of the time people would just notice that I seem to spend a lot of my day traveling along bus routes!

Theres a small clan of Aus cachers who use Twitter a lot have played with tracker apps like Glympse etc when travelling about to interesting places. I like checking out where someone is if I'm deskbound!

BUT: The apps like Google Locate etc which are basically on all the time is probably overkill!

Interesting side note: If you upload photos to flikr or picasa while you are out and about you and be tracked (sorta).... if your Wifi is on and it can pick up an access point, the iPhone and Android can reference that SSID and MAC address to it's lat/lon to give your location within 20 or 30m WITHOUT using the GPS and this is embedded in the photos EXIF data :-)

Apple does it via Skyhook, Google does it via wifi points gathered while doing the streetview stuff.

(When I got my Desire I turned it on and was wondering how it was only 6m out when I hadn't enabled the GPS yet.... quite freaky till you figure it out)
